You Have To Fight for It

I Timothy 6:11-12 (ESV) But as for you, O man of God, flee these things. Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, gentleness. Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called and about which you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.

What are fighting for today? Is it worth the time, energy and effort being put into it? Are you tired of the battle? Ready to throw in the proverbial towel? O man (or woman) of God, you have to flee the urge to give up and not give in to weariness. The father of lies (John 8:44) is the one telling you all these things. You have something beautiful inside of you worth nurturing, growing and developing. In its maturity, promises and blessings will become prosperity in your life. But you have to fight for it!

The potential in the heart of the believer is faith. Everyone comes with a measure of faith and eternity in their heart. This is everything you need to have a rich and satisfying life. It comes with this warning – there is a thief who will steal, kill and destroy everything of worth if given the opportunity. He doesn’t need a wide open door. Just a small space to get a foothold in our mind will do the trick – faith flourishes in believing. Our confidence in the Lord will cause trust to develop. This changes our thoughts and vocabulary from cursing the fields of our life to pouring out blessing over them. Like our friend Gideon, God is reminding you today that you are a mighty warrior. You must fight the good fight of faith. Even on those days when faith seems small and hope miniscule – you have to fight for what’s left!

Romans 4:20-21 (ESV) No unbelief made him waver concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong in his faith as he gave glory to God, fully convinced that God was able to do what he had promised.

The potential of our life is not random. It is not something decided by man but deposited by God. You have purpose. There is a plan. It is not going to come about naturally. It is supernatural and divine. To believe or not to believe is up to you. However, our choice in the matter does not hinder or limit our potential in any way shape or form. The masterpiece is still in the making. All the elements are present from the moment of creation. It is whether or not one seeks the Master that determines the outcome.

Abraham is an example. His body old and his promise fading with his vitality. He still believed that God would make him the father of many nations just as the Lord had promised him all those years ago. He tried to do it his way and failed. Who can relate? I am sure people talked behind his back. Crazy old man – he will never father a child with Sarah. When it was completely impossible naturally, Abraham fought to hold on to his faith in God and the hope that he was given. Guess what? God did it. No unbelief made Abraham waver concerning God’s Promise. The lie of the enemy did not hold any credence. Abraham believed when there was absolutely no reason to think it would happen. We must fight to maintain confidence in the promise of God for our life even when it looks like a tiny seed or a wilting plant too old to reproduce. God is able to do what He promised.

2 Corinthians 10:4-6 (ESV) For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ, being ready to punish every disobedience, when your obedience is complete.

The enemy’s only weapon of any impact is the lie. If he can confuse or convolute the truth, confidence becomes corrupted. We must maintain absolute and complete confidence in God’s Word for our life in order to faith to be influential. Without confidence, there will be no trust. Without faith, it is impossible to please God. We must fight the good fight of faith which most of the time is fighting just to keep it. Rather than getting caught up in worthless endeavors and careless conversations, it is imperative to constantly work the Word of God into our heart and manage our thoughts accordingly. When the enemy says, “You can’t… you aren’t… or you won’t…” Our response must be “I can… I am… and I will because Christ lives in me!” Faith fortifies our heart, mind and soul with Truth that no matter what weapon is formed against us we will overcome and achieve victory in Christ every time. There is no need to concede or give up because all we do in Jesus is win!

2 Corinthians 1:20-22 (ESV) For all the promises of God find their Yes in him. That is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his glory. And it is God who establishes us with you in Christ, and has anointed us, and who has also put his seal on us and given us his Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.

“But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (I Corinthians 15:57) You are a champion. God has given you victory. His Name is Jesus. If you believe in Jesus Christ, you have the power of God inside you that produces life, life and prosperity in epic proportions. If you are not experiencing such a life – you have to fight for it. The fight of our life is to believe. To cast down every thought contrary to the truth of who we are and what we are capable of thanks to Jesus. Faith is given to us, but we must do something with it. Confidence is a battle of the heart and mind. The enemy has a weapon. It is called the lie. The lie will manifest in every space that faith is not planted and protected. If the promise is worth having it is certainly worth fighting for. God loves you. He will fight for you if you will fight the battle of self. This is how we overcome obstacles, tear down strongholds and take the “land” given to us by the Lord. In all things we are called more than conquerors. You just have to fight for it.

Romans 8:37-39 (ESV) No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
