The Hype

The Hype

Romans 10:1-4 (ESV) Brothers, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for them is that they may be saved. For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge. For, being ignorant of the righteousness of God, and seeking to establish their own, they did not submit to God’s righteousness. For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.

College football season began this weekend with all the rivalries heating up. Social media feeds heavy laden with the usual banter back and forth. Team colors flying and crowds cheering for the first look at the home team. Our favorite team has experienced some changes this year – new coach and strategy mixed with a whole lot of hype. The excitement has been building to an explosive point. Super exciting, right? Well…our team didn’t do so well. Defense good but offense terrible resulting in a humiliating and unexpected loss. Suddenly like a giant balloon so bright and colorful begins to slowly deflate. The dream evaporates and stunning reality emerges that there is still a lot of work to do to become victorious.

The hype surrounding the new coach and revamped team sent a shockwave of hope to the followers of the football team. The media created a climatic mix of desertion by the old coach and the arrival of the team “savior” in the new one. Everyone jumped on board quickly and thousands of dollars in advertising made it easy and appealing but when the cleats hit the turf – the truth emerged. What is hype? Is it bad? Hype stimulates excitement and creates interest. It is promotes and publicizes to create intensity. However, if hype is not backed by truth it only produces disappointment. It has not validity. If hype stirs up our emotions, but cannot continue to support such feelings – it results in huge letdowns with anger mixed in. Such an experience compromises trust and only further confirms that there is no point in trust or confidence anymore.

For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge.

Any great leader can promote, publicize and create intensity and interest. Many are gifted with talents allowing them to convince others of the validity of something and get them wrapped up in emotions. The enemy can tempt us to jump on hype and forget seeking out the Truth. Truth is the place where freedom begins. Hype without truth is a lie. Hype preys on human emotions to gain support to no end. It generally leads to dead ends and disappointments. However, zeal is not an empty threat of success. It is only a lie when not backed by the Truth. We are encouraged to be zealous for the Lord and the ministry. However, it all becomes hype if there is no Truth to back our words.

There is no place for hype in the church. Zeal, of course! Excitement, yes. Anticipation, absolutely. Interest and intensity, if not – why go? God doesn’t desire dead churches but He will always look for the Truth. In our gatherings, it is crucial to the modern church that there is Truth in our words and ways. I know it is messy to speak of the Blood. It is not fashionable to point to the Cross. But without Jesus there is no Truth to our claims and commitment. Our relationship is not righteousness and therefore, only religious overtures that lead nowhere no matter how many excited and amped up followers we have.

John 8:32 (TPT) For if you embrace the truth, it will release more freedom into your lives.

The Passion Translation surmises:

The truth Jesus gives us releases us from the bondage of our past, the bondage of our sins, and the bondage of religion. Jesus is speaking these words to those who were not fully free from man’s traditions. Truth must be embraced and worked out through the divine process of spiritual maturity. The Greek word for “truth” is reality. To embrace the reality of Christ brings more freedom into your life. See the book of Galatians for a clear explanation of the freedom Jesus refers to here.

Our zeal must be knowledge based and truth driven. The reality of our relationship with God is through Jesus Christ, His Son. There is no other way. We can try to love and express generosity and even attempt to imitate all the Fruit of God’s Spirit, but if the foundation of truth in our life is not Jesus and falling completely head-over-heels in love with Him first – it’s all just hype that leads us dangerously to eternity void of salvation.

The Truth is that we all must work out salvation through a divine process of spiritual maturity. No one just arrives but fights to expose new truth from God’s Word (Jesus) so the Holy Spirit can use it to change us from the inside out. It is our soul that must prosper first before the rest of our life will experience it. The Grace of God is received through Christ. Our commitment must be to our covenant with Jesus and primary interest in making Him our life partner to have zeal that is productive. Our zeal must be knowledge based and never emotionally driven. It must be founded on real love and true commitment which is not always easy and requires endurance.

Romans 10:9-13 (ESV) Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor. Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality.

Saul served God with zeal. As he massacred Christians, he fully believed that his actions were in direct obedience to the Lord. Saul was a devout and committed Jew. He believed that God chose him to overcome the new church. However, when Saul became Paul – the Truth (Jesus) redirected his zeal to truly glorify God. He couldn’t take back his actions, but he could now press to the mark of the high calling of God through Jesus Christ. We must evaluation our motives and emotions. Allowing God’s Word to be a two-edged sword and cut through our heart to find faith with validity. It would be a tragedy for true, pure and faithful zeal for the Lord to be no more than hidden hype. Hype leads to disappointment where hope never will! Be encouraged today! Get excited about Jesus! Always compare every word received from teachers, preachers, or speakers to the Truth. Continue to do the same with every sermon and profound lesson. The foundation of faith in our life has a name – His Name is Jesus! It is through Christ that we have overwhelming victory! Amen and amen!

I Corinthians 15:57 (ESV) But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Have Hope

Have Hope.png

Hebrews 6:17-20 (ESV) So when God desired to show more convincingly to the heirs of the promise the unchangeable character of his purpose, he guaranteed it with an oath, so that by two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope set before us. We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain, where Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf, having become a high priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.

My husband and I were blessed to enjoy a cruise many years ago. If you have never had the opportunity to set sail, I highly recommend it. As a wife and mother, there is something truly wonderful about stepping on a ship to be whisked away from schedules, routines, menu planning, meal preparing and such duties to be taken to an exotic destination while someone else feeds and cares for you for a change. On the last night of the cruise was the captain’s dinner, and as we made our way back to the cabin the waters had become quick rough. The large vessel was now rocking back and forth. It was difficult to keep one’s balance. Upon entering the cabin, I quickly changed and crawled into the most magnificent comfy bed. The kind that just sucks you in and drifted off to sleep. My husband was not fairing quite as well obviously ill from the waves. I was awakened to him calling my name holding tightly to side of the bed an unnatural shade of green. “How can you sleep?” he said in his distress.

From a very early age, I have always been able to sleep through storms of all kinds. As a child living in a mobile home, a tornado came through ripping off the screened patio on the side of the home and carrying off the metal shed next to it yet I continued to sleep right through it. Just recently a hurricane made landfall not far from home, and again my kids and husband couldn’t believe that I could sleep through the wind and rain. It is a blessing I suppose. That or an uncanny gift of escaping reality for the time being, who knows? What I do know for sure is that storms do come, waves rise up and darkness seems to overtake light but in all things – I have hope.

What is a natural ability can also become a supernatural gift for those who choose the proper anchor! The Truth overpowers the lie every time. To know the Truth is freedom. To hold on the Truth is our security. Is the enemy trying to drain your confidence today? Is he wrestling to make you release the anchor of our soul? He has a way of doing that consistently and often with great success but it doesn’t have to be that way. Confident hope is the security of our heart, mind and soul in the attack of the enemy. He cannot take your potential. He cannot redefine purpose. He cannot change God’s Plan for us. Christ in us is enough. Always enough. His Grace is sufficient. The lie of the enemy has no hold but that doesn’t mean that it is man’s mistake to hold tightly to the lie rather than embracing the Truth. God’s Word is the Truth that carefully details our life. Christ is the Word of God that lives in us making all things possible for those who believe.

So when God desired to show more convincingly to the heirs of the promise the unchangeable character of his purpose, he guaranteed it with an oath, so that by two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie… I wonder the possibilities if God’s People would grab hold of the unimaginable promise that God has unchangeable character. To accept with absolute confidence that He guarantees His Promises with an oath to us that He does not lie and will never ever change His Mind. We become fixated on the process and forget the promise. Just as the disciples who knew Jesus had not yet arrived in the absolute belief that He indeed was the Son of God evidenced when the ship hit a storm. Jesus was sleeping comfortably within the vessel and his closest friends and followers asked, “Do you not care?” Jesus calmed the storm raging around them but it was up to them to settle the sea within their own heart and mind.

We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain… Even though the ship was tossing and turning that night, I crawled into the big comfortable bed without hesitation. The captain and his crew were in the wheelhouse taking care of things. An announcement had already been given that the seas were rough but to rest assured the vessel was under control and on course. I chose to believe the experts. Resting in the safety of my bed, the waves were still peaking and the boat still bouncing but I was not afraid so rest came easily. Oh the Peace of God that will carefully contain us in every storm in life. The Presence of God around us thanks to the veil torn from top to bottom by Jesus. Hope is the sure and steadfast anchor of the soul. Hope is the weight of faith that keeps us in the secret place of rest that the Lord promises those who believe. Those who allow their faith to gain substance.

Hebrews 10:23 (ESV) Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.

God is faithful. He is always faithful even when we are not. His Faithfulness ensures the promise, potential and purpose of our life to be successful and prosperous. We must not only have faith but faith full invested in hope. Hope will never ever lead you to disappointment even though people and problems may try to. Whether gripping it with both hands or holding on as to a thread, the power of the anchor of hope given to us by God through Jesus Christ is always enough to keep us. There will be some days that His Love for us and His Plan makes perfect sense so faith and trust come easy. There will be days with faith is a completely illogical choice except for the promise that He has given us. Everyday hope can be the anchor for our soul. Perfect peace is possible for those who believe. Jesus is our Peace. He allows us to have His Mind by His Spirit who works on the inside to produce the good fruit that feeds and nourishes our soul. God is good. He loves you. He is always on your side. He is for you! He will never ever let you down. You must only believe and hold tightly to the anchor that He has given for our soul. Hope is the anchor of our soul!

Romans 5:1-5 (ESV) Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.

Voice of Victory

Voice of Victory

I Samuel 17:45-47 (ESV) Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword and with a spear and with a javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day the Lord will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you down and cut off your head. And I will give the dead bodies of the host of the Philistines this day to the birds of the air and to the wild beasts of the earth that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel, and that all this assembly may know that the Lord saves not with sword and spear. For the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give you into our hand.”

One of the greatest stories ever told, David and Goliath. The story of a shepherd boy overcoming a mighty giant with nothing but a slingshot and smooth stone driven with precision. Armies held at bay by him yet David small in stature and unarmed but mighty in heart and full of God’s Spirit dare to stand and face the giant. A true example of not by might or by power but by His Spirit as the Word relates in Zechariah 4:6. Victory is the favorable outcome in every battle ever faced by the believer. We fight from victory to victory. Christ has already given us the win. But then there is always a pesky giant to deal with now isn’t there.

The elephant in the room often ignored doubt that deteriorates our confidence in the hope-filled promise that as believers triumph is our destiny. We win. In every possible situation by faith, victory belongs to us. It is not an act of willpower, determination or even personal strength and discipline. The power to win comes simply in believing God’s Word to be the absolute truth of our life. The Bible is quick to point out that the weapon of our warfare is not carnal or of the flesh. It is our mindset. Our thought process decides whether we will walk in victory or cower in fear when the giants come calling. We have the divine power to destroy strongholds. What strongholds? Those of the mindset that there is any other power greater or stronger than God Almighty. Strongholds are carefully constructed lies that keep us in the mental prison of fear and anxiety. Thanks be to God that He gives us victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. King Jesus.

David faced quite a bit of opposition just trying to get to the battlefield that day. His father sent him to check on his brothers and take them some provisions. David wasn’t looking for a fight, but he sure found one. He didn’t expect to find the great and mighty Israelite army cowering from the Philistine army. For 40 days, the Goliath would come forward and take his stand morning and evening shouting threats and daring confrontation. All the men of Israel were afraid and fled at the sound of his voice. David’s brother questioned his sibling’s motives. Why have you come? To see the battle? He even belittled his brother by inquiring as to the whereabouts of his sheep. David asked the men around him as to the king’s reward for the one who defeated the giant. His brother was appalled. When David found himself before King Saul, he said, “Let no man’s heart fail because of him. Your servant will go and fight this Philistine.”

The king was quick to point out all the reasons David could not defeat Goliath. Too young. Too inexperienced. David recited all the times the Lord had delivered him from the lion and bear. He believed that same God would deliver him from the giant standing in their midst. His confidence was clearly in the Lord and His Power. Saul finally succumbed to David’s request, then tried to put his armor on the boy. It didn’t fit and overpowered him. So David took off the armor and headed unarmed and unprotected by conventional battle array to face the enemy of Israel. As David approached him, Goliath began to affirm the former reasons of the king and add his own indignation for Israel sending a boy rather than a seasoned warrior to face him. Little did Goliath know that it was not in David’s appearance, but in his heart that would end this battle with his massive defeat. It is right here that our passage picks up.

For the battle is the Lord‘s, and he will give you into our hand.” What is your battle cry today? What giant are you facing? Have you retreated pressed back by fear and uncertainty? It is time to change your declaration. It is time to take hold of the divine. God has empowered us to win. Christ has given us the victory. The only weapon the enemy or giant has against you is a lie. You have the truth in you. Filled with the Word, it is time to release it. You don’t need to be like anyone else and you certainly do not need their affirmation or approval. God empowered you from the moment you said, “Yes” to His Son to win every battle through Him. David did not walk out but ran to face Goliath. But note, the enemy did not engage David. He did not even draw a sword. You are God’s Child. His Anointed is in you. The enemy casts lies and hurls threats but in the end you just have to tell him what God told you. It is in the moment when our confidence becomes our declaration that praise becomes a prophetic voice of victory.

Goliath held Israel for 40 days with a lie. The same God that carried David on the field to victory was for them but they had taken hold of the enemy’s threat rather than overcoming Him with truth. Praise is the weapon that arms our mind. It is the sword of truth waved by the Spirit to refute every lie trying to create a stronghold to keep us from living a victorious life. No matter what you are facing, nothing is impossible with God. The only way this becomes our destiny is to believe it. Do you believe that God is almighty today? Do you believe that King Jesus has all power and authority over your life? If so, then remind your heart, mind and soul. Tell the enemy what God says about you. Remind the giant that God is bigger than he is. Rebuke him not by fighting with faith that fights for you. Our mind must be ready for battle or it will fall in the field of lies, threats and taunts.

I Corinthians 15:57-58 (ESV) But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.

You have victory today. You win every day. Not because of you, but because Christ lives in you. It doesn’t matter how things look, how big the giant, or how impossible the odds – we must only believe it to achieve it. The battle is the Lord’s. Whether it is a personal one or outward attack, He will never leave you or forsake you. We must only be steadfast and immovable. The giant couldn’t touch David. David did not lay a finger on the giant. God is our refuge. He is our strength. He is our shield. The Sun that causes darkness to flee. You have everything you need to win. David didn’t even have a sword but lopped off the enemy’s head with his own sword. God has already provided everything you need to be victorious in every situation so we can abound in His Work knowing our labor is never in vain but always triumphant. I needed to hear that today! How about you? The lie may be big and it may seem like reality but the Truth always prevails. Jesus is the Word. He is in you. He will win for you. All you must do is believe and be the voice of victory by shouting His Praise.

Psalm 68:32-35 (ESV) O kingdoms of the earth, sing to God; sing praises to the Lord, Selah  to him who rides in the heavens, the ancient heavens; behold, he sends out his voice, his mighty voice. Ascribe power to God, whose majesty is over Israel, and whose power is in the skies. Awesome is God from his sanctuary; the God of Israel—he is the one who gives power and strength to his people. Blessed be God!

Fully Equipped

Fully Equipped

Hebrews 13:20-21 (NLT) Now may the God of peace—who brought up from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great Shepherd of the sheep, and ratified an eternal covenant with his blood—may he equip you with all you need for doing his will. May he produce in you, through the power of Jesus Christ, every good thing that is pleasing to him. All glory to him forever and ever! Amen.

Did you know that you are fully equipped to win every battle you may be facing today? You have victory in Jesus Christ that overcomes every adversarial force and defeats all opposition in your life. Christ in us is always enough to walk in triumph. The old adage “sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never break me” is attributed to Alexander William Kinglake written in 1830. The enemy of our soul has only lies to lure us from the position of power into the entanglement of the untrue. To somehow convince us that Christ is not powerful enough to sustain us or doesn’t love us enough to care. He must convince us to step out from under the shield of God moving out of His Light to live in the dangers of darkness. Thankfully Jesus will always leave the ninety-nine to seek out the one.

The Lord has fully equipped us to do His Will. To live a life in love with Him and allow His Goodness to overtake us. It is a submissive and humble roll that does not jive with pride and self-motivation. It is a discipline discovered in His Word and through trusting the Lord day by day until our life is fully invested in His Will. It is an act of repentance that turns us from worthless things to live the Kingdom life. Every battle is won by the peace of God that keeps us firmly rooted and grounded in His Love and confident in the sustainability of His Truth. Our sword is the Word of God that tears down every lie which becomes the strongholds in our heart. To know the Truth sets us free from the lie that so easily trips us up.

2 Timothy 2:3-6 (NLT) Endure suffering along with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. Soldiers don’t get tied up in the affairs of civilian life, for then they cannot please the officer who enlisted them. And athletes cannot win the prize unless they follow the rules. And hardworking farmers should be the first to enjoy the fruit of their labor.

Endurance is required. Called to be a “good soldier” of Christ Jesus indicates there will be battles in this life. Need I remind you that Jesus won the war? It is easy to get “tied up in the affairs of civilian life”. However, those who cannot please the One who enlisted them due to divided allegiance. You cannot fight for both sides and be a traitor to both. The enemy doesn’t care if you play both sides of the fence. Compromise is the name of the game. If he can tempt you with substitutions or settlements – he has enough of your attention to keep you from victory. Athletes cannot win a prize unless they follow the instructions and rules of the game. Each sport has a different set of rules and rewards. Finally, hardworking farmers will enjoy good fruit for they labor not in vain. How do we go from fighting to farming in this illustration? The battle is the Lord’s.

I Samuel 17:46-48 (NLT) Today the Lord will conquer you, and I will kill you and cut off your head. And then I will give the dead bodies of your men to the birds and wild animals, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel! And everyone assembled here will know that the Lord rescues his people, but not with sword and spear. This is the Lord’s battle, and he will give you to us!” As Goliath moved closer to attack, David quickly ran out to meet him.

The shepherd boy, David, was not man enough to face the giant that day. The man after God’s own heart and soon-to-be King of Israel was not only read but willing. He didn’t don the armor of King Saul but rather with just five smooth stones and a slingshot a man who held the entire Israelite army at bay. The battle belonged to the Lord. The weapon that brought the enemy down was not the stone that fell the giant but faith found in the heart of a helpless young man who loved God with an undivided heart. David declared, “This is the Lord’s battle and He will give it to us!”

Ephesians 6:10-11 (NLT) A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil.

If you are facing a battle or in the midst of a war today, I must remind you that God will not take you to it if He has not made a way through it. We walk in victory. We fight from the winner’s circle. The problem is not in the outcome but in our mindset from the beginning. Be strong in the Lord and in His Mighty Power.

Trust. Dependence. Discipline. Devotion. The strategy of the enemy is to somehow dissuade your from believing God at His Word. If he can make you doubt, then faith will be overcome and fear takes over. If you continue in Ephesians, the armor of God is belt of truth, body armor of righteousness, boots soled in peace, shield of faith helmet of salvation and sword of the spirit. The armor is not designed to protect you as you fight, but to help you stand when the enemy pursues you. Why are you fighting your own battles when Jesus won the war? Every piece of armor represents confidence in Christ and His Victory. You are fully equipped to walk in victory. This is fully accomplished by faith and trust that Christ is triumphant in all things. He has power and authority to do exactly as He promised and give you a rich and satisfying life full of His Abundance.

Psalm 33:15-18 (NLT) He made their hearts, so he understands everything they do. The best-equipped army cannot save a king, nor is great strength enough to save a warrior. Don’t count on your warhorse to give you victory—for all its strength, it cannot save you. But the Lord watches over those who fear him, those who rely on his unfailing love.

As Goliath moved closer to attack, David quickly ran out to meet him. The engagement between the giant and David that day was won with a single blow. David did not even come in contact with the giant but one stone took out the enemy of Israel. When the stone was rolled away, it crushed the enemy. He is powerless because Jesus is completely victorious. The power of God for us is found in His Grace. It is always enough to overcome our weakness but must be humbly accepted. Pride wants to fight its own battles and win its own wars but it has no access to Kingdom coffers. God has promised us good things. Jesus hands us victory and says, “Go get it!” We have nothing to fear and no reason to doubt only an opportunity to take the land beginning with each step along the way.

Isaiah 45:4-6 (NLT) “And why have I called you for this work? Why did I call you by name when you did not know me? It is for the sake of Jacob my servant, Israel my chosen one. I am the Lord; there is no other God. I have equipped you for battle, though you don’t even know me, so all the world from east to west will know there is no other God. I am the Lord, and there is no other.”

The Lord equipped you when He called you. When He created you and decided to love you, He prepared you beforehand for every single day of your life. (Psalm 139) You have everything you need through Jesus Christ to walk in victory even the faith needed to invest your body, mind, spirit and soul. To live fully invested in the Kingdom is to stop getting caught up in civilian affairs. As long as you are alive, there will be an enemy to tempt you. He can only use lies to persuade you but He cannot push you from the protection of God’s Will or His Way. You are free to decide this day who you will serve and what you will believe.

Romans 8:37-39 (NLT)  No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us. And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.

A couple years ago, I traded in my old SUV and purchased a new-to-me smaller SUV. For months I searched until I found the “one”, and finally upgraded. I chose the make of automobile based on consumer reports and crash testing. I wanted a safe and reliable vehicle that would run until the wheels fell off. I was looking through the manual the other day to find out if it had a certain option and how to use it. I found that my vehicle came equipped with many features I was not aware of simply because for two years I drove around with the owner’s manual in the glovebox. We have an owner’s manual. It is detailed and full of useful information for us. It is the strategy for our life that gives us overwhelming victory. No matter what and despite all things, we have been given victory in Jesus Christ. If we are not living a victorious life, it is time to read the manual and ask the Lord to show us.

You are fully equipped to overcome and walk triumphantly through life. It begins with the conviction that nothing is impossible for God who loves us with inseparability. Nothing can ever take us from that place in His Presence as People of His Kingdom if we choose to dwell there in the shadow of the Most High. It is our privilege to love and trust Him back and His Promise that in every situation there is overwhelming victory in His Son – Jesus Christ. It is not our position to fight the battle but to stand confidently knowing that we can overcome and win by the Blood of the Lam and the word of our testimony. David yelled at the giant as he ran on the field that day. He told Goliath exactly what the Lord had told him. The giant fell that day. Your giant will fall too and you will walk in victory not in your power but by His Spirit who has fully equipped you! Christ inside of you has made you unstoppable and nothing can stand in the way of His Plan or His Promise.

Zechariah 4:5-7 (NLT)  “Don’t you know?” the angel asked. “No, my lord,” I replied. Then he said to me, “This is what the Lord says to Zerubbabel: It is not by force nor by strength, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies. Nothing, not even a mighty mountain, will stand in Zerubbabel’s way; it will become a level plain before him! And when Zerubbabel sets the final stone of the Temple in place, the people will shout: ‘May God bless it! May God bless it!’”

Ignore the Roar

Ignore the Roar

I Peter 5:6-9 (ESV) Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world.

There is an adversary prowling the earth seeking someone to devour. The word “devour” means to consume destructively, recklessly or wantonly. It is to engulf or swallow up. To absorb or engross wholly. The enemy of our soul seeks someone to devour. How does one resist the devourer? Those who remain subject to God and His Word that humble themselves under His Mighty Hand will be lifted up…at the proper time. Does it seem like you never have enough time? Or do you live from paycheck to paycheck? What are you lacking? We are people who are predestined to live in abundance. Jesus Christ came to give us a rich and satisfying life. The Lord promises to do exceedingly abundantly more we ask or think…according to His Power at work in us.

The thief comes to steal, kill and destroy. We have a good Shepherd who carefully watches the flock called the righteous. I am called righteous in right standing with God based on the salvation of Jesus Christ who opened a gate for me. To enter the Presence of God and live in peaceful surrender to the Living God. Humility is essential to the righteous remaining in the shelter and refuge of God. The roar of the lion is loud. When I was a teenager, I went to Africa on a missionary venture. Lying in bed at night, an occasional roar of a lion could be heard in the darkness. At first it was a bit frightening, however; I was safe in a compound with whitewashed walls and members of the Maasai tribe patrolled the perimeter to keep those inside safe. The lions roar was just a reminder of the dangers lurking outside the walls of the camp. Lord, help us to see that the roar of the lion that produces fear, anxiety and stress is but a veiled threat to those who live in the sanctuary of trust and peace that you provide.

Malachi 3:10-12 (ESV) Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need. I will rebuke the devourer for you, so that it will not destroy the fruits of your soil, and your vine in the field shall not fail to bear, says the Lord of hosts. Then all nations will call you blessed, for you will be a land of delight, says the Lord of hosts.

“And he told them many things in parables, saying: “A sower went out to sow. And as he sowed, some seeds fell along the path, and the birds came and devoured them.” (Matthew 13) The Lord gives seed to the sower. You are a sower. You plant in your life every day. You decide the productivity of your life based on the quality and quantity of your investment. The potential in us is based on the Kingdom as we have been given eternity in our heart. A promise that EVERYTHING will be made beautiful in its own time. A gift of faith that is the beginning of great fruitfulness in our life. There is a thief who wants to steal, kill and destroy the hope that is given to us in the productivity of our seed. Jesus came to grow it in us and for us.

The seed of God’s Word must be pressed deep into a soft and fertile heart to grow into anything of worth in our life. Malachi 3 talks about the tithe. The tithe of our life is our time, talent and treasure. All should be considered in our giving to God. Our covenant relationship with the Father gives us the opportunity to reap Kingdom benefits and blessings in all three areas according to our level of faith and trust in Him. To partner with the Lord requires an investment. We must give to receive these things. Our position in life must be Presence. Our posture must be humility. It is under the Mighty Hand of God that we find the prosperity longed for. This is an act of submission and surrender to the Lord that gives our time, talent and treasure to Him – we must decide that God deserves our first fruits of each not what is remaining.

The promise of partnership with God is that He will rebuke the devourer. To rebuke means express sharp, stern disapproval. It also means to reprove or reprimand. The original meaning of rebuke means to beat back or hack down. The Lord will call off the devourer by His Word. We have God’s Word that He will deal with the devourer if we choose to trust Him more. When we move our life and all its resources from doubt and fear to live in full dependence on the Lord and trusting Him – the enemy can roar but he cannot move within the borders of faith and trust. He can only hurl lies and threats over the fence but they are quickly rebuked by God’s Word now active in our heart and mind. When Jesus was in the wilderness, the enemy came to him. Jesus did not argue with the devil or complain about the situation. His answer to every temptation was simple. He told the enemy what God said. The Word is Jesus and He lives in us now. His Word is the potential for our life. Do you know what God says about you? Do you know what the blessings and benefits of the Kingdom are for you? Do you believe it? When we decide to trust the Lord fully with our time, talent and treasure enough to give Him the most choice portion, the devourer must move back as he is beaten down by God’s Word. Jesus makes intercession for us with the Father and defends us by the Word.

Proverbs 21:20-21 (ESV) Precious treasure and oil are in a wise man’s dwelling, but a foolish man devours it. Whoever pursues righteousness and kindness will find life, righteousness, and honor.

Remember the widow who cried to Elisha, her husband was dead. (2 Kings 4) He was a man of God and servant of the Lord. The woman feared the creditor was coming to take her sons. Elisha asked her, “Tell me; what have you in the house?” Her response, “Your servant has nothing in the house except a jar of oil.” Oil represents anointing. Christ lives in us. The Anointed One has chosen to inhabit our heart. With faith, nothing is impossible. Faith cannot stay in our heart but must be sown in trust. What if you already have what is needed to prosper and live in the abundance of God but it is just hidden in your “house”? You have the Word of God and the faith that moves mountains but cower in fear over simple provisions of life. You have the Peace of God that passes understanding but remain in fear, worry and anxiety over the roar of the lion. The woman changed her situation when she became a vessel. Her abundance of oil in the small flask did not run out until she stopped providing a place for it to flow.

Whoever pursues righteousness and kindness will find life, righteousness and honor. Ignore the roar! Give no credence to the lion today. Jesus has rebuked the devourer. Do not let him in. He cannot touch anything resting inside the Shelter and Refuge of God’s Presence. When we plant all our expectation in Jesus Christ by faith it will be fruitful in its proper time. The Lord has promised that there is a season for EVERYTHING. He tells us that EVERYTHING will be made beautiful in its time. No seed planted today bears fruit tomorrow. There is a process and most certainly a wait time. But in the meantime, the Lord promises to the rebuke the devourer in all things given to Him.

Proverbs 3:5-6 (ESV) Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.

Onward Christian Soldier

Onward Christian Soldier

Romans 8:37-39 (NLT) No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us. And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Onward, Christian soldiers! Marching as to war, with the Cross of Jesus going on before. Christ, the Royal Master, leads against the foe; forward into battle, see His Banners go! (Onward Christian Soldiers, Sabine Baring-Gould, 1865)

There always seems to be the one situation that seems overwhelming. No matter how many times you pray, cry out to the Lord or try to move on – it keeps coming up. I have one of those “things” in my life. It doesn’t matter how many times I shake the dust off my feet it comes back like a monkey slinging mud or worse at the zoo. The longer it takes for resolution the more blinding the doubt that keeps shouting things will never change. Is there anything too big for God? Lord, help my unbelief today.

I have fought many battles since coming to Christ. Each one strengthening my confidence in the Lord and His Promises. But everyone has a Jezebel who in the midst of celebrating a win comes with the ultimate threat that leaves even the strongest reeling and reaching for support. I am embarrassed to admit that even in my conversations with the Lord – I am perplexed wondering if this one may be too strong for us. Is this giant too big to bring down with a single stone? Is this roaring lion to be the one that destroys someone? How silly right? The Word of the Lord for our life is “despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ…” What are all these things?

Romans 8:35-36 (NLT) Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? (As the Scriptures say, “For your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep.”)

Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s Love? Of course, not. However, until I decide for myself that He lives in me, is always for me, loves unfailingly, always looking out for my good, and fights for me, my faith is wavering and belief not rock solid. When wrong gets its way and things are not “right” the waiting for the win seems like it is taking forever. For those who know God’s Word for their life continually seeking His Way it may seem even more unjust as the trial is endured and the test engaged in, but overwhelming victory belongs to the confident. The person who continually remains steadfast as the Lord works out the Plan of Victory His Way and in His Timing. In the meantime, He works on our heart. There is always more of ourselves to yield to the Lord and His Spirit.

Onward Christian Soldier, we must march as unto war. Each day the battle rages within us to give up on this new life in Christ that is so drastically different than the world lives. To continually turn over the real estate of our reality to firmly establish our faith and confident hope in Christ alone. The more it is attempted the more people will let you down. The church is an imperfect mass of people being formed and fashioned into one. It is a process that takes a lifetime. The battle within us to do right when everyone else is doing wrong. To stay firm in our own convictions and not sucking the weak and helpless into our rules and regulations. To remain steadfast in our seeking even on the narrow road. To let the higher thoughts and grander thinking of God our Father be our knowledge and understanding rather than trying to figure everything out. Overwhelming victory is not produced by my hands, my head or even my heart. It belongs to Christ alone. To inhabit His Presence and let His Spirit permeate me leads me to victory day by day basking in His Love and thriving on His Grace.

I Corinthians 15:57-58 (NLT) But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ. So, my dear brothers and sisters, be strong and immovable. Always work enthusiastically for the Lord, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless.

Though it was a torrential downpour outside, my heart was excited to be at church ready to worship. I walked into the classroom for a quick good morning before service began. Cold, dead stares. Was I really begin shunned? Shock and dismayed – I tried to break through the ice. Like a huge iceberg floating in the Bering Sea, it was clear this would not thaw anytime soon. Why? My dear brothers and sisters be strong and immovable. Always work enthusiastically…for the Lord. It is so hard to remember sometimes that my life is not my own. Everything I do or say has potential in Jesus Christ no matter how it is received or even rejected. Nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless. What are you bumping up against today? Have you been met with opposition? There is no need to fight back the battle is already won. Perfect love drives out all fear and doubt while fulfilling our expectation so we do not need the affirmation, acceptance or approval of people therefore in every season and situation – we walk in love because God’s Love for us is perfect and perfecting.

At the sign of triumph satan’s host doth flee; on, then, Christian soldiers, on to victory. Hell’s foundations quiver at the shout of praise; brothers, lift your voices, loud your anthems raise. Onward, Christian soldiers! Marching as to war, with the cross of Jesus going on before. Like a mighty army moves the Church of God; brothers, we are treading where the Saints have trod. We are not divided; all one body we: one in hope and doctrine, one in charity.

Colossians 2:14-15 (NLT) He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross. In this way, he disarmed the spiritual rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by his victory over them on the cross.

The enemy cannot take our victory. When Jesus canceled the record of charges against me by nailing them to the Cross – I became victorious. The only way that I can ever lose in life is to give up the grace that I have been give. When I decide another way is better, or that I cannot win so choose to walk away – it is in that moment I hand over my win to the liar. I exchange the Truth about my life for the lie of the enemy. Are you being taunted today? Tempted to give up? Every spiritual ruler and authority has no power over you. Christ disarmed them. He publicly shamed them all by His Victory over sin, death and the grave. He triumphantly arose and gave it all to you and me.

I John 4:4 (NLT) But you belong to God, my dear children. You have already won a victory over those people, because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world.

We are not divided; all one body we: one in hope and doctrine, one in charity…these words are an inspiration for the church even today. The Spirit who live in you and me is greater than the enemy who lives in the world. Do you believe that today? Your victory is secure in Christ. It is not a narrow win but an overwhelming triumph. Are you immovable in your faith? Are you unshakeable in confident hope? Faith and hope are the prevailing factors that lead us from victory to victory. To believe with all our body, mind, heart, soul and spirit of God’s Unfailing Love, Amazing Grace, Constant Goodness, and that He is always for us. These are the things that allow us to walk in victory. The enemy has been defeated. Stop letting him defeat you with doubt, fear, anxiety, worry and stress. Overwhelming victory belongs to us simply because Christ loves us.

I John 5:3-5 (NLT) Loving God means keeping his commandments, and his commandments are not burdensome. For every child of God defeats this evil world, and we achieve this victory through our faith. And who can win this battle against the world? Only those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God.

Every Child of God defeats evil achieving victory through our faith. Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Son of God who came to set us free can walk in victory daily. Not just in spiritual battles but just living ordinary life. The only way to lose is to forfeit your faith and allow fear to take away what God has already given you through the Sacrifice of His Son – Jesus. We are destined to win. Victory is in the Blood that now flows in us. There are two halves in basketball, four quarters in football, and nine innings in baseball. No athlete whose heart is set on winning gives up before the final buzzer – why are you giving up now? God makes everything beautiful in His Time not ours. We must wait for the masterpiece to be completed or it is just another pretty picture worth only as much as what it is made of. Stop comparing your life to others. Decide you will have all Christ died for you to have today in spite of other people and their opinions. There is a reason the narrow road is called less traveled. Lean not on your own understanding and follow Jesus. Let His Truth be your roadmap to victory today. Let His Spirit show you how to win!

Onward, then, ye people; join our happy throng. Blend with ours your voices in the triumph song: Glory, laud, and honor unto Christ, the King. This through countless ages men and angels sing.

I Corinthians 9:25-27 (NLT) All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize. So I run with purpose in every step. I am not just shadowboxing. I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified.

Are You Listening?

Are You Listening

Proverbs 8:32-35 (NIV) “Now then, my children, listen to me; blessed are those who keep my ways. Listen to my instruction and be wise; do not disregard it. Blessed are those who listen to me, watching daily at my doors, waiting at my doorway. For those who find me find life and receive favor from the Lord.

My husband and I were having a normal conversation on an ordinary day. He kept saying, “What?” I would repeat the previous statement. This continued until I insisted on a visit to the doctor and hearing test concerned that he may have hearing issue. He laughed and said, “Or at least they can tell me if it is selective hearing loss!” Oh my goodness! Always the jokester. I read on social media recently that a husband told his wife that scientists have found that men say about 10,000 words a day while women say about 20,000. His wife shouts back from the kitchen, “It’s because we have to repeat everything twice to you blockheads.” The husband responds, “What?” And there you have it, what science deems a response to “higher level of protein” is really just a need to be heard…

Psalm 50 tells us that “the Mighty One, God, the Lord, speaks and summons the earth from the rising of the sun to where it sets.” Who is He speaking to? You. Me. All of us. God still speaks today. Whispering to those He calls beloved in an effort to illicit a response and release the instruction that leads to abundance in all things as God has ordained and predestined for us. Are you listening? Am I listening? When we hear His Voice is it easily recognized and discerned from all the other influences in our life? The Lord has called the listeners “blessed”. Those who watch and wait at His Doorway. Those who do will find life everlasting and overflowing with His Abundance.

Psalm 78:1-3 (NIV) My people, hear my teaching; listen to the words of my mouth. I will open my mouth with a parable; I will utter hidden things, things from of old—things we have heard and known, things our ancestors have told us.

God speaks to us. The truth is that He speaks to us every day from the rising of the sun until it sets. God is encouraging us, teaching us, leading us, and guiding us to better things by better ways. We choose the voice who guides us each day. However, His Thoughts are not my (natural) thoughts and inclinations. (Isaiah 55:8) His Ways are not my instinctual ways, attitude or actions but much higher altogether. God leads us to the narrow road less followed and the higher way not always perceived in our humanity. There are two keys things necessary to discern God’s Voice from the other influences.

John 14:26 (NIV)  But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.

We absolutely need the Holy Spirit to discern the Voice of God. The Advocate who weighs earthly logic and Heavenly Knowledge to give us the upper hand. Faith is not logical in our present state of mind. It is only by continually allowing His Spirit to mold and shape us that we adopt the mindset of Christ that allows us to follow through with His Actions.

Matthew 4:4 (NIV) Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”

The Word of God is essential. If I may paint a picture, the Holy Spirit lives in you and me. He is the advocate and our personal warrior who enables us to overcome the enemy. The only weapon the enemy can use against us is the lie. The Shield of Faith protects us from those fiery darts. The Word of God is the sword of the Spirit that cuts to the Truth. When you know the Truth, you will not accept the lie. Matthew 4:4 is the response of Jesus to the lie of the enemy. What is yours?

I have been to many churches and found them all unique. There are churches that emphasis the Holy Spirit and spiritual gifts. However, the Word is often overlooked. I grew up in a Bible-based church that focused solely on studying scripture and silenced the Holy Spirit. The church I believe that will be the “remnant” church of the end times will worship in Spirit and Truth just as Jesus tells the woman at the well in the Book of John. We must be filled by the Spirit and the Word in order to rightly divide the Truth from the lie even in our churches and small groups.

Proverbs 1:20-23 (NIV) Out in the open wisdom calls aloud, she raises her voice in the public square; on top of the wall she cries out, at the city gate she makes her speech: “How long will you who are simple love your simple ways? How long will mockers delight in mockery and fools hate knowledge? Repent at my rebuke! Then I will pour out my thoughts to you, I will make known to you my teachings.

The Lord is relentless in His Pursuit of us. Psalm 23 tells us that His Goodness and Unfailing Love follow us all the days of our lives. God desires us to dwell in His Presence. He wants to communicate with us. Commune with us. He lives inside of us as a holy consummation of the covenant of love that He has made with us. He wants to pour His Thoughts in us so we will overcome the lie of the enemy and stop living in lack. Lack comes in many forms. It is not a material or monetary term. The Fruit of God’s Spirit grows in the vacated spaces occupied by substitutions and compromise. As our soul prospers in Spirit and Truth, so will we. We must be listening for God’s Voice in every moment of every day to have all that He has promised and ordained to bless us with in this life leading to eternity.

I Kings 19:11-13 (NIV) The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.” Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave. Then a voice said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”

Elijah left Mount Carmel victorious over the prophets of Baal. God accepted his sacrifice proving their religion a farce and 450 were killed that day. Jezebel was infuriated and in her rage leveled a death threat against God’s Man, Elijah. He fled to a cave high atop a mountain. It’s funny how easy a lie can ensnare us. Just when everything seemed to be going so well, and then our feet get tangled in a half-truth or subtle suggestion. The enemy of our soul knows the Word of God personally. Jesus is the Word of God. He saw satan fall from Heaven. Who better to twist and taint the Truth but one who knows it intimately inside and out? With this in mind, the best defense is a good offense. You can prepare for the lie of the enemy by engaging in the Truth. Faith is credible and logical when rooted and grounded in the Word of God.

God did not yell at His Servant or berate him for falling for the oldest trick in the Book. No, he came to him in a gentle whisper and called him by name. “What are you doing here, Elijah?” God is intent on the one. He will leave the 99 just to find you in the midst of delays, detours or distractions. He understands our vulnerability when it comes to believing the lie. He has empowered us to overcome yet in our weakness – His Grace is always enough.

Have you fallen for the lie of the enemy? Have you stopped listening? There is a difference between ignoring God and ignorance. If you know the Word and are filled by the Spirit and choose to do what you want to do – there is a sin problem in your heart today. Repent and let Him lead to the better way. The problem is most likely fostered by a faith plagued by fear, doubt and insecurity creating disbelief. He is not mad at you but still insists on communicating His Love to you one-on-one.

If you have never heard the Voice of God, you are in for a real treat. There is nothing more relevant in your life than to hear the Words of the One who created you. Your Father in Heaven who loves you perfectly and completely. When the enemy comes in like a flood, the Word of God hidden in our heart begins to cut through the lie to expose the Truth. The Holy Spirit holds firmly the Shield of Faith to protect the tender, broken heart that has repented and presented itself to the Lord. God is speaking to you today. He has secrets just for you. Thoughts that will blow your mind with possibility. He desires a personal relationship with you that will bring you together as one. God is speaking to you. Are you listening?

Psalm 27:8 (NIV) My heart has heard you say, “Come and talk with me.” And my heart responds, “Lord, I am coming.”

Throwing Shade

Throwing Shade

I Peter 5:7-10 (NLT) Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you. Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. Stand firm against him, and be strong in your faith. Remember that your family of believers all over the world is going through the same kind of suffering you are. In his kindness God called you to share in his eternal glory by means of Christ Jesus. So after you have suffered a little while, he will restore, support, and strengthen you, and he will place you on a firm foundation.

Is the enemy throwing shade today? Telling you lies like things are not going to get better, you are going under, nothing will change and you might as well get used to it. As if the lie was not enough to plant a seed of doubt, he comes behind the lie and waters it with all the reasons why you are not worthy of God’s Love and Goodness to further grow doubt and disbelief until prevailing darkness weighs heavy in our mind.

The Urban Dictionary describes the term “throwing shade” as trash talking about a friend or acquaintance or to publicly denounce or disrespect. I know the term because I am blessed with teenagers. Throwing shade is a subtle insult not necessarily a direct attack. It doesn’t always result in a direct hit but a slight notice or thought – “Hey, is that about me” or “directed at me”. It is in that moment the “what if” begins or even worse offense takes hold that the attacker hits the mark of its prey. The trouble is no one really knows the truth from a lie so inevitably relationships are destroyed by the notion that someone is “throwing shade” whether relevant or not.

These subtle attacks on relationships are working. Young people today are victims of the viral offense of the enemy to destroy relationships the way that God intended them to be. Jesus Christ is a direct result of God’s Desire to have a relationship with us. He sent His Only Son to die so that our right standing could be restored and our relationship with God, our Father, renewed. His Spirit living in us is evidence of the bond formed. Our perception of relationship has become skewed as people text rather than talk, assume rather than engage, and live life in a self-made bubble based on who people want them to be rather than who the Creator designed them to become. The enemy thrives on our insecurities and uncertainties. Even believers struggle within the social circle called church never fully becoming the family of God by developing strong bonds and relationships. Seeking perfection in people and placing our expectation in the imperfection of the same, it is no wonder that we have forgotten the power and authority given to us by Jesus Christ of overcoming the enemy and all of his schemes.

“He prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking who he may devour.” There are lions who live in captivity. They engage with humans as house cats. While onlookers wonder if they will turn on their captor one day. The lion is the “king of the jungle.” Created to be a powerful predator. Held by a chain or even nothing at all – the will of the lion is broken. He remains subject to the one who cares for him. His natural instinct conditioned to a life of domestication rather than fierce nobility. Jesus has given us His Power and Authority for here and now, but I wonder how many of us live subject to the lie of the enemy? How often we live in the captivity of fear, doubt, insecurity and disbelief without even knowing it? The enemy is powerless unless we become the one he can devour.

Luke 10:19-20 (NLT) Look, I have given you authority over all the power of the enemy, and you can walk among snakes and scorpions and crush them. Nothing will injure you. But don’t rejoice because evil spirits obey you; rejoice because your names are registered in heaven.”

Do you believe that you have been given “authority over all the power of the enemy”? Do you believe that “nothing will injure you”? Do you believe…? If we truly believed, it would impact our way of life. It would be evident in how we live, how we react, how we respond, and what we do each day. Our relationship with Jesus Christ and the fact He lives in us gives us all power and authority over the enemy in our life. However, the enemy knows that if he can just convince you of a half-truth and create just a little uncertainty in you – he’s got you right where he wants you. He doesn’t have to beat you – you will give up. He doesn’t have to force you – you will give in. He doesn’t even have to convince you because without confidence you are easily shakable and movable. He just have to throw enough shade to put out the Light that was only a flicker or spark inside of you. See the enemy is not as strong as most give him credit for. He is just a really good liar.

Ephesians 6:12-18 (NLT) For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.

God’s Armor is not external. It is the protection of God given for our heart, soul and mind. The enemy doesn’t want our body or physical part of our life. It is dying anyway. He wants to change our heart, mind and soul concerning our faith in God and reliance on the Trinity for life. He wants to throw shade to create obstacles and obscure the vision of God for us. If he can just get in your head, he has access to the control panel of feelings, emotions, and logic. Belt of truth and body armor of righteousness fortify the platform of our existence, though unperceivable with human eyes it is the very foundation of our faith. Peace of God keeps us steady and gives us traction when everything starts moving and shaking. A moving mountain makes quite an earthquake. The shield of faith wards off the barbs of the ingenious lies of the enemy that twist truth into palatable fodder that makes us drift in doubt and disbelief. The helmet of salvation is secured with the chinstrap of grace. The enemy wants you to believe that grace is not enough when the truth is grace is always sufficient and Christ is more than enough. The sword of the Spirit is important. It is the Word of God. Most Christians today have dull swords and do not know the Truth from a lie. Many completely disregard the Spirit of the Living God which means they have nothing of use to ward off the enemy when he comes calling.

Pray. Stay alert. Be persistent. How much time is given to your relationship with Jesus Christ each day? I am not talking about hours of service in organized religion. I am not asking how many generous offerings of time, talent or treasure given to others. I am asking how much time is spent in intimacy with the Lover of Your Soul. The One who died for you. The One who fights for you and hands you the victory. The One who is with you. Never leaves you. Never forsakes you. Never gives up on you. Always waits for you. No matter how you treat the Lord – He is always giving us unfailing love, amazing grace, unending mercy, and great goodness. Him. How much your life is given to cultivating a real and abiding relationship with Jesus Christ? It is the strength of our relationship with Jesus Christ that keeps us from believing the lie of the enemy. If we know the Lord, then the lie or half-truth becomes obvious because we know the Word and have chose to believe Him.

John 16:33 (NLT) I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”

Jesus overcame the world. He has been given by God all authority and power over the enemy of this world. In turn, the Lord decided to give us His Power. We have it. But like the lion in captivity, sometimes the enemy persuades to doubt our position in God through Christ. He tells us that freedom is a lie so we will give it back to him. He constantly questions the sufficiency of grace until we give up the fulfillment offered by the Lord to regain control and comfort. Every day as long as the sun rises and sets – the enemy will stop to get you to lay down your cross and pick up the burdens, cares and worries of life. You have the power to overcome. But will you?

The enemy will continue to “throw shade” as the young people say. He cannot put out a light that shines from the inside. He cannot put out a fire that burns from the inside. If we will place an emphasis on cultivating a forever bond and thriving relationship with Jesus Christ, we will not continually fall for his lies and deceptions because we know the Truth. We believe it because we have firsthand intimate knowledge of Jesus Christ through His Word, prayer and intimacy of time spent in His Presence. We pursue the Lord. We desire Him. It is in this relationship that we begin to build lasting and loving relationships with people because now we do not look for their acceptance any longer. We do not expect them to be our fulfillment. Freedom in Christ is to live liberated from every lie the enemy tries to capture us with and throwing it back to the pit of hell. Lord, I pray for my brothers and sisters in Christ today. Lord, spark a desire for more intimacy with you Jesus. Help us fan the tiny flicker of passion inside of us into a burning light or raging fire that the enemy cannot put out. Let your Spirit guide us from victory to victory leading us from self-dependency to sole reliance in You today! We are overcomes! We are victorious! We have all power and authority over the enemy! We believe, God! Lord, help our unbelief in Jesus Name!

2 Corinthians 10:5 (NLT) We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ.

Level Paths

Level Paths

Isaiah 26:7-8 (NIV) The path of the righteous is level; you, the Upright One, make the way of the righteous smooth. Yes, Lord, walking in the way of your laws, we wait for you; your name and renown are the desire of our hearts.

There is a popular Christian saying that “God is greater than our highs and lows.” Originating from Romans 8:39 – it is a reminder that neither height nor depth or anything in all creation can ever separate us from the Love of God. The certainty of our faith and confident hope in Christ is the fact that His Unconditional Love and Unfathomable Grace belongs to us. No matter how chaotic our conditions or crazy the circumstances of life become making it possible to keep our eyes on Him and our feet traveling in His Direction. The acquisition and full possession God’s Love personally and intimately allows us to walk on level paths. It says so in Isaiah 26 that “the path of the righteous is level.” He makes “the way of the righteous smooth.” The journey of life is full of bumps, barricades and road blocks. We can overcome them all in the Name of Jesus. But how?

Glad you asked. When we walk in the way of the Word, waiting on the Lord, and make His Name and Glory our deepest desire – a union is formed between us. In Matthew 11, Jesus offers to yoke with us or become partners. Intimacy with the Lord requires many of the same things that a personal relationship in the natural would. We must learn to pay attention, invest energy, and give up our way in order to move closer to Him and become one with Christ. Christ lives in us. His Spirit is evidence of the consummation and desire of the Lord to be one with us. However, just as two people can live in the same home or be married for decades, sometimes intimacy is not achieved. Any relationship that is ignored will die over time.

With this in mind, are you walking with Jesus today? Are you aware of His Presence in you and around you right now? He goes before us, stands right there with us, lives in us and hedges us in from behind. I am just like you and cannot fully comprehend the omnipresence of God but by faith I accept it and choose to engage in a relationship because I have confident hope. The Lord has made the Way for us. He has ordered our steps and leveled our path. How do I find it?

Psalm 119:103-105 (NIV) How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth! I gain understanding from your precepts; therefore I hate every wrong path. Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.

As a teenager, I was challenged by a Sunday school teacher to learn and memorize scripture verses. She gifted me with a little packet of cards. Psalm 119:105 was one of the first verses. Why do we need God’s Word? I have heard many people express difficulty in reading, understanding and continuing in the Word of God. I get it because I used to feel the exact same way. However, the Word of God is absolutely essential to walking on level paths through life. You must know the Word to know Jesus Christ. He is the Word. The Word of God is our instruction book and map to the promises and blessings that the Lord has hidden in this life for our natural and spiritual success. It points us in the right direction. It helps us to decide at the crossroads of life and valleys of indecision. The Word of God is our weapon against the lie of the enemy which is the only thing that he has in his arsenal to use against us. The Bible tells us that people perish for a lack of knowledge. It points out that in the end times – the Word will help people identify false teaching. It is absolutely the lamp and compass for our life.

Psalm 119:103 describes the Word as “sweet” to the taste. It’s funny that sometimes it seems like a bitter pill going down but as we begin to feast on His Word, chew it up, and fully digest it something remarkable happens. The Holy Spirit takes the Truth and begins to feed and nourish our soul with it. He uses it to combat all our rebellious thoughts and contrary nature. As we grow stronger in the Word, it develops and matures us from the inside out. When I eat a green bean, I do not immediately feel full. I do not experience the process going on inside of me as my body takes all the nutrients out of the vegetable. It begins a digestion process with in me. I also don’t immediately feel the effects of white chocolate macadamia cookies when I eat them – I just know I really like them until I cannot button my jeans. The Word of God is not always a quick fix. It is an ongoing investment in intimacy with Christ as we get to know Him more and more. We eat (or at least are supposed to) three meals a day. Some of us may do a little snacking, too. This keeps our body strong and healthy. The Word must be partaken just the same to build a strong and healthy soul that will prosper.

Psalm 18:32-36 (NIV) It is God who arms me with strength and keeps my way secure. He makes my feet like the feet of a deer; he causes me to stand on the heights. He trains my hands for battle; my arms can bend a bow of bronze. You make your saving help my shield, and your right hand sustains me; your help has made me great. You provide a broad path for my feet, so that my ankles do not give way.

David killed a lion and a bear before facing the giant that day. God ordered his steps to train him for one of the biggest challenges of his life. He spent countless hours tending sheep. During that time, it is clear that he spent time with the Lord. David is called a man after God’s Own Heart. His Love for us unquestionable in the giving of His Son, Jesus. His Commitment undeniable as evidenced by His Spirit entrusted us. God gave us the Word to make our paths level, but that doesn’t mean to smooth out all the bumps in the roadway of life. It is not about making this life and the world a better place. He has given us His Word and provided the way for level paths by faith and confidence. God is greater than the highs and lows because He carries us high above them.

The Lord has provided a wide path, a spacious place, an open heaven in our midst. Walking in it doesn’t always mean there will not be challenges, struggles or battles otherwise there would be no need to train us or give us a shield. We wouldn’t need His Help if perfection possible. He causes me to stand on the heights but that means I am going to travel up some mountains out of some pretty low valleys. BUT…it says He keeps my way secure…whatever that way is…God has already been there to make a way where there was no way, provide everything I need to get through it and most assuredly will give me victory in due time.

Hebrews 12:12-13 (NIV)Therefore, strengthen your feeble arms and weak knees. “Make level paths for your feet,” so that the lame may not be disabled, but rather healed.

Make level paths for your feet. Our active participation and dedication to intimacy with Jesus Christ is to pursue Him in the Word. By doing so, we level the way before us because our life is no longer defined by words, opinions or lies. It is bound by Truth. Truth will produce more faith and confidence in the Lord. Confidence that will keep on keeping on even when the mountain seems high or the valley too low. His Love will carry you above your situation to see things as He sees them and give you hope that keeps you in the good fight of faith. Be encouraged today. God loves you. No height or depth or anything in all creation will ever separate you from His Love whether naturally occurring or self-imposed. His Grace is ALWAYS enough. The Lord will never ever let you down. You have to believe that to receive it otherwise your life will be wasted reacting to the change of scenery rather than responding to His Promises and flourishing in faith. You have His Word. You have His Spirit. Christ is in you. Make level your path today. Fill your insufficient faith with the Word and watch it grow into all the good things He promised.

Hebrews 4:12 (NIV) For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

Know the Truth

Know the Truth

Titus 1:2 (NLT) This truth gives them confidence that they have eternal life, which God—who does not lie—promised them before the world began.

“A lie can travel half way around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes.” (Charles Spurgeon) The only weapon in the arsenal of the enemy are his lies. The only thing that he can use against a believer is their ignorance of God’s Word and the Truth therein. However, the power of the lie is that it is easily believable so seemingly rational and plausible. The validity of lies in our life are usually based on fear and insecurity. The inner flaw of human weakness that feeds on the lie rather than seeking and embracing the truth. Our experiences in life will mold and shape our thoughts into vessels that catch certain things more readily than others.

It is impossible to please God apart from faith. (Hebrews 11:6) Faith comes by hearing the Word of God. (Romans 10:17) Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life – He is the only way to approach the Father and live in His Righteousness. (John 14:6) Over and over again in the New Testament, Jesus continually repeats “I tell you the truth…” Standing before high priest, our Savior asks, “If I said anything wrong, you must prove it. But if I’m speaking the truth, why are you beating me?” Religion faced off with a real relationship with God, truth won that day but it sure didn’t seem like it. Jesus would be beaten some more, nailed to a Cross, then buried in a tomb.” What did that say about the truth? In the darkness of the three days while Jesus waited His Time, the disciples were face with the daunting task of holding on to the truth or embracing a lie. Hidden in the upper room praying, weeping and crying out to God – they were no doubt filled with fear and anxiety. But what they didn’t know in that moment was the prevailing truth that would soon be revealed.

Mahatma Gandhi said, “Truth stands, even if there be no public support. It is self-sustained.” What is the truth that governs your life today? Truth is cemented in what we believe. It may not be the same for everyone according to what they believe but given the appropriate amount of time – truth always prevails. The importance of truth in our life adds validity to our belief system. If we build our life on a lie, the lie is a shaky foundation. It is constantly moving, evolving and changing. Usually emotionally driven, it will set forth a series of events that lead us away from our destination in a series of delays and detours. However, the truth is an actual state. It is the verified and indisputable reality. However, if we cannot see the truth, feel it or touch it – we must decide in its invisibility whether to receive it or not.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NLT) All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.

I wonder what would happen in the life of Christians if rather than listening to the opinions of others – our value and worth was based solely on God’s Teaching. The Word of God carefully outlining the details of our life and ordering our steps. Pride keeps us from hearing the Word and doing what it says in fear it may restrict our freedom. This is how the enemy wields his weapon in our life. Feeding us half-truth and watered down lies to convince us that God is not as good as He says He is and that His Promises are not really for me. We get so tangled up in his lies and caught up in fear and insecurity that suddenly an invisible cell of our construction rises up around us. God uses His Word to prepare and equip us to do every good work.

John 8:43-45 (NLT)  Why can’t you understand what I am saying? It’s because you can’t even hear me! For you are the children of your father the devil, and you love to do the evil things he does. He was a murderer from the beginning. He has always hated the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies. So when I tell the truth, you just naturally don’t believe me!

The truth allows us to recognize a lie. If we know the truth about something, we are not so quick to believe or accept a lie. With this in mind, it is important that the Word of God becomes the foundation of our life. A solid foundation poured in our life will not allow the enemy to carry us off so quickly with his deception. We need God’s Truth to keep us secure in our faith at all times. The truth secures our freedom. (John 8:32) Ignorance will cause death in our life. It kills the possibility and potential placed in us by God for the fulfillment of purpose. It restricts our growth and development in the Lord because we do not have a good foundation to be rooted and grounded in beginning with God’s Love. If people were absolutely convinced in God’s Love, Grace and Goodness given to us through His Son, Jesus Christ, it would be life changing. Nothing would sway us from seeking truth and pursuing it with passion. Have you fallen for a lie that is hindering the reality of truth in your life? Are you bound by something other than the embrace of Christ? It may be as easy as allowing the Truth to set you free again.

Ephesians 4:13-15 (NLT) This will continue until we all come to such unity in our faith and knowledge of God’s Son that we will be mature in the Lord, measuring up to the full and complete standard of Christ. Then we will no longer be immature like children. We won’t be tossed and blown about by every wind of new teaching. We will not be influenced when people try to trick us with lies so clever they sound like the truth. Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church.

The Word of God cuts away the stronghold of the enemies lies in our life. It is alive and powerful. God’s Word is sharp because it is true. Truth does not give way to a lie just as light does not give in to darkness. God does not lie. He does not change His Mind because He is truth. (Numbers 23:19; 2 Timothy 2:19) Jesus is the Truth. (John 14:6) His Unbending and Unyielding Ways are not because He is rigid and uncaring but because He is Truth. The truth will never give in to a lie. This is so important. The enemy uses his lies to cut us and harm us. To keep us from the life God has given us through His Son, Jesus. To convince us that there is there are things we can do to separate us from the Love of God when nothing could be further from the Truth.

The Bible says that true worshippers do so in Spirit and in truth. (John 4:24) The Lord has filled us with His Spirit as a believer and that Spirit is Truth. (John 16:13) We must get to know the Truth for ourselves. We must read the Word, study the Word, digest the Word, and live the Word in order to be released from every lie set as a trap to keep us from God’s Best. God’s Word, His Truth, creates unity in the Body called the church when we hold on to the Truth it allows us to come together in the commonality of Christ alone. The enemy wants to split the church, divide its people and take out the lost and isolated. What are you going to do about it?

Psalm 85:10-13 (NLT) Unfailing love and truth have met together. Righteousness and peace have kissed! Truth springs up from the earth, and righteousness smiles down from heaven. Yes, the Lord pours down his blessings. Our land will yield its bountiful harvest. Righteousness goes as a herald before him, preparing the way for his steps.

When unfailing love and truth met together salvation was born. A gift like no other given to imperfect people from a perfect God. It is a real life love story. Righteousness and peace with God came together and united now His Truth for our life is possible again. What sin once kept us from grace carries us right to it. There is nothing I can do to stop God’s Call or Potential in my life except to grab hold of the enemy’s lie and run with it. See God’s Truth is the mandate of my life as a believer and absolutely belongs to me thanks to Jesus Christ. If my life does not resemble the promise or plan that I have been given, it may be that I have allowed a lie to somehow make its way to my heart and taken it in as truth. The greatest part of the truth that governs my life is that His Grace is enough for me every time I fail or fall for the lie of the enemy. All I have to do is let go and let God take over again. God has ordained blessing and prosperity for my life that grows as I accept His Truth planting seeds of faith from it. It blossoms and blooms into all the good things that He has promised. It allows me the freedom to love others because my expectation is fully met by His Love. I have nothing to gain from this world therefore I can live recklessly in love with people and abounding in generosity because I have all I need according to His Word. What about you? Are you living in the abundance of God in all things today? Are you filled peaceful satisfaction living a life of contentment and joy? If not, get in God’s Word today! Find your promise. Uproot lies and plant new seeds of faith. God is Good! He will never ever let you down! His Promises are true because it is impossible for Him to lie or change His Mind. Let God’s Truth become the foundation of your life. It doesn’t matter how things look today. It really doesn’t matter what anyone says. The Truth is the reality of your life and faith is how you access it. Know the Truth. Let it set you free from every lie until blessing rises up from the ashes of it.

All truths are easy to understand once they are discovered; the point is to discover them.” Galileo Galilei)

Truth is ever to be found in simplicity, and not in the multiplicity and confusion of things. (Isaac Newton)

The truth is inconvertible. Malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is. (Winston Churchill)

Psalm 25:3-5 (NLT) No one who trusts in you will ever be disgraced, but disgrace comes to those who try to deceive others. Show me the right path, O Lord; point out the road for me to follow. Lead me by your truth and teach me, for you are the God who saves me. All day long I put my hope in you.
