Hebrews 13:15-16 (NLT) Therefore, let us offer through Jesus a continual sacrifice of praise to God, proclaiming our allegiance to his name. And don’t forget to do good and to share with those in need. These are the sacrifices that please God.

How important is allegiance to God through His Son, Jesus? It is of the utmost importance to the believer. However, in this day and age of messy grace, it is sometimes ignored completely. God is Sovereign. His Mercy and Grace for His People flows from his power and authority as such. To choose His Grace through the acceptance of Jesus Christ as Savior has a further implication as He must also become our Lord. The real crowd pleaser is a God of Love who accepts us just as we are with no further responsibility. A God who leaves us to our own ways, entertaining sin and living for self. To live in sin and seek the Son. Seeker sensitive churches have created a mindset of cheap salvation and illegal immigration into the Kingdom of God. Whosoever will may come, but those who do must confess allegiance to God through Jesus, His Son. There is a requirement. I don’t want to bust anyone’s bubble but I absolutely do want to invite you into the Promise of God fully.

Let us offer through Jesus a continual sacrifice of praise to God proclaiming our allegiance to His Name.

Allegiance means devotion and loyalty. It is the loyalty of a citizen to his or her government or to his or her sovereign. There are many who come to the Lord but remain subject to this life. They miss the blessing and promise of the Kingdom by remaining loyal to the world. The Kingdom of God is a treasure to be discovered. As told by Jesus, “The Kingdom of Heaven is like a treasure that a man discovered in a field. In his excitement, he hid it again and sold everything he owned to get enough money to buy the field.” We must invest our life into the Kingdom of God to demonstration our devotion and loyalty defined as allegiance. We must pledge our allegiance with our life.

The call to allegiance to the Kingdom of God through Jesus Christ goes all the back to the Old Testament in Deuteronomy. God’s desire of us never changed but now we can have real estate in Heaven thanks to the sacrifice of Christ on the Cross. “And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul and all your strength.” (Deut. 6:5) Love is a verb. It requires action. To merely say, “I love you” and act to the contrary is not suitable for any relationship. In I Corinthians 13 – God who is love through divine inspiration of the Holy Spirit tells us what love is – “patient and kind. Love is no jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable and keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.” This is not only a representation of God’s Love for us but how we are to love Him back.

Romans 6:16-18 (NIV) Don’t you know that when you offer yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey—whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness? But thanks be to God that, though you used to be slaves to sin, you have come to obey from your heart the pattern of teaching that has now claimed your allegiance. You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness.

Allegiance points to our master. The drive and direction of our life is determined by our discipline. True evidence of allegiance is obedience. There is a downward spiral in society that rejects and rebels against authority. Allegiance is weakening in the world today. The unity of protection and prosperity afforded by community is failing. While some call it “freedom” is a form of slavery. Sin is a subtle host that sucks life out of the believer under the guise of amazing grace. His Grace is sufficient in our weakness not in willful disobedience. Disobedience is treason to the Kingdom of God and outward rebellion against the Lord characteristic of loyalty and a lack of devotion. Sin will always be offensive to God. One sin demands all of Christ’s life. We must learn the truth. The truth sets us free. Freedom is found by those who seek the Kingdom of God and demonstrate allegiance to God which is obedience.

2 Corinthians 10:4-6 (NLT) We use God’s mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments. We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ. And after you have become fully obedient, we will punish everyone who remains disobedient.

Allegiance creates unity. Oneness in the Body of Christ is only possible when everyone adheres to the same principles. It is our responsibility as Children of God to uphold our covenant with the Father through His Son. Perfection is not our pursuit but to remove everything that might keep us from the Presence of God. Our heart and mind must become united in allegiance to the Living God. Our life must be lived in love with God and other people. First and foremost is our allegiance to the Kingdom. It is from this right relationship with promises and purposes are discovered. The enemy wants those who hear the message of the Gospel to think that no change is required. He is fine with those who confess Christ’s Name but live for the world. No harm no foul. But for those who desire to live for the Kingdom of God in allegiance to Him through His Son – Jesus – you will have a fight on your hands.

The battle is not against flesh and blood but principalities and darkness set on keeping you captive by half-truths and messy grace. To keep you in comfort, convenience, control and complacency so this God-thing doesn’t get out of hand. Because if for a moment your heart and head truly connect with Heaven and you experience the persons of God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit taking over then love, joy and peace will become the pursuit of your life.

It only takes one miracle to change life’s direction. It takes only a whisper of His Magnificent Voice to change your mind. With all the broken pieces of your broken heart, dead dreams and shattered life, God the Creator will make a masterpiece. It begins with allegiance. It is found in obedience. It starts with one thing and then another. It is not in our striving but simply trying that God honors our effort. We must see Heaven as a treasure to be had and sell out our lives to obtain it. To live in allegiance to the Lord before it’s too late.

Galatians 3:21 (NLT) Is there a conflict, then, between God’s law and God’s promises? Absolutely not! If the law could give us new life, we could be made right with God by obeying it.

Where is your allegiance today? Consider the time spent each day – where does it go? What do you invest in? Do you read your Bible? Do you pray? Are you obeying God? Do you even know what He is asking of you? When people seek citizenship in a country, they must learn the laws of the land. They must study the government, customs and ways. Why don’t we do the same for the Kingdom of God? To know what salvation is all about and seek to make Christ Lord of our life? There is no conflict between God’s Law and His Promises. Genesis to Revelation tells the same story. There is not one of the 66 chapters of the Bible that have become obsolete. This is our Kingdom manual. The Holy Spirit is the ambassador of Christ to our heart helping us see the truth and apply it to our life. He teaches us how to be Kingdom kids. We have everything needed to be citizens of the Kingdom of God and live in allegiance to Him – the rest is up to us.

Hebrews 13:20-21 (NLT) Now may the God of peace—who brought up from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great Shepherd of the sheep, and ratified an eternal covenant with his blood—may he equip you with all you need for doing his will. May he produce in you, through the power of Jesus Christ, every good thing that is pleasing to him. All glory to him forever and ever! Amen.
