Psalm 51:6 (AMP) Behold, You desire truth in the innermost being, and in the hidden part [of my heart] You will make me know wisdom.
What is God’s Will for my life? Have you ever wondered if you are in God’s Will? Or like many, including myself, once thought that you missed it completely? Like some elusive scroll-like map on ancient parchment paper carefully unfurled by God at your birth as a long stem feather pen dipped in red ink checked each step along the way which didn’t go far and was torn apart by human nature bent on its own way and rebellion against the Lord. What’s the point? What if I told you that you did not miss God’s Will for your life? In fact, every step of your life is ordered and ordained by the Father. (Proverbs 20:24) Each day appointed and recorded before your birth. (Psalm 139:16) There is no way to escape the Will of God for your life. I know…it didn’t make sense to me either. The projector played by the enemy of all my sins, faults and failures on vivid display in my mind. How can this be God’s Will for my life?
Romans 8:28 tells us that “and we know [with great confidence] that God [who is deeply concerned about us] causes all things to work together [as a plan] for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to His plan and purpose.” The greatest lie of the enemy is that there is something you or I could ever do to separate us from the Father’s Love. When the Word of God is clear and specific that “neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present and threatening, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the [unlimited] love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:38-39) What if the life you are living now IS God’s Will for your life? All the heartbreak, pain, tragedy and failure comprising the greatest comeback of all time. The realm of hope is paved with impossibles that by faith become the reality of our life in Christ.
The secret to spiritual success is not in our service to God but His Salvation of us. It is easy to move past acceptance of Christ to prove something with the rest of our life when in fact the greatest miracle is that our name is recorded in Heaven. It is now our privilege to live in an intimate relationship with Jesus. We are doers by nature but the Will of God for us is to become new creations first and foremost. Without the inner transformation the external representation is worthless. Faith must become the reality of our life. Grace must be fully accepted in our weakness in order for His Power to manifest in our daily existence. Until one learns to abide in Christ, there is always a danger of artificial fruit. We can clean up our look. We can change our habits. We can learn a new vocabulary. However, if the contents of our heart when subject to His Light do not meet the credentials of Christ – we fail completely.
Proverbs 2:4-5 (AMP) If you seek skillful and godly wisdom as you would silver and search for her as you would hidden treasures; then you will understand the [reverent] fear of the Lord [that is, worshiping Him and regarding Him as truly awesome] and discover the knowledge of God.
Joel 2:13 tells us to “rend your heart and not your garments.” It is important to understand the role of our heart in our relationship with Jesus Christ. The heart is deceitful above all things. (Jeremiah 17:9) It has many hidden parts that will require a lifetime of true repentance. However, we must seek such a life by continually immersing it in pursuit of skillful and godly wisdom. To know God and Jesus is not enough. I “know” a lot of people as casual acquaintances. I cannot always remember their name. However, I want Jesus to know my name as He inscribes it in the Lamb’s Book of Life. My relationship with Jesus must become valued, treasured, and secured as one would their most precious commodities. Understanding promotes obedience which is wisdom. To know and understand must be finalized with obedience – then it becomes wisdom.
Ephesians 5:13-17 (ESV) But when anything is exposed by the light, it becomes visible for anything that becomes visible is light. Therefore it says, “Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.” Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.
Jesus is the Light of the world. (John 8:12) He then tells us that we are the light of the world. (Matthew 5:14) Where there is light, darkness must flee. Don’t believe me? Go turn on the light in a dark room. Light will always overpower darkness. Now in Matthew 10:26-27, Mark 4:22, Luke 12:27 and I Corinthian 4:5, it is made clear that nothing hidden in the darkness will be unseen in the light. In other words, it is important to turn our heart inside out before the Lord on a regular basis. There is no need to fear because He knows exactly what is already hidden inside of you. (Psalm 139:15-18) He knows our makeup and design. God’s Will is to subject our entire heart to the Light of His Love and make good on every promise.
According to I John 4:18, there is no fear in love because perfect love casts out all fear. God is not going to punish us for that would nullify the sufficiency of His Grace. He never goes against His Word. His Will for your life is that you will be a soul set free and completely liberated by His Love. There is not a single sin that can separate you from God except the one withheld from His Grace. He doesn’t want to punish you but rather release you from all bondages, hindrances and obstacles of His Will, Plan and Purpose which will always produce a rich and satisfying life.
I John 3:19-22 (ESV) By this we shall know that we are of the truth and reassure our heart before him; for whenever our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and he knows everything. Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence before God; and whatever we ask we receive from him, because we keep his commandments and do what pleases him.
Sitting in a Wednesday night service minding my own business, the preacher started talking about breaking chains in our life. Strongholds surrendered to the grace of God for deliverance. As he began reading a list of possible issues, I must admit my heart was at peace that the Lord and I were good so far. However, I was still jotting down notes with him. Then he hit a nerve and the Holy Spirit poked me good. As I wrote the word, my heart began to beat and bleed in my chest. I had no idea I was in bondage to this thing until that moment. It had been hidden deep in the folds of my heart. When the music began and the altar opened – I had to try not to jump and run to be first in line. Of course, I didn’t want to be obvious. What would people think? Well, maybe that’s our problem, we worry too much about people and not the fact that the Light of God’s Love is seeking the innermost part of our hidden heart to free us.
His Will for our life is to prosper our soul. I say it all the time. I don’t think people get it. God will not do anything in your life that will compromise your soul including bless you. He wants good things for you. He desires to bless you beyond anything you can think, ask or imagine. However, your soul and salvation will ALWAYS be His Top Priority. When we begin to seek God’s Face and live in love with His Son, Jesus – the blessings will be bountiful. As our priorities shift from this life to His Kingdom, prosperity will come. But if our heart does not break into tiny pieces to be placed completely in the Father’s Hands, well then those other things will just have to wait. He is a patient God. He is not slack concerning His Promises. He doesn’t grow weak or weary. He is right where you are. The Lord sees you. He hears you. His Spirit is stirring within you right now. He will lead you when you follow. He will hold you when you come. God is faithful. God is good!
I challenge you to let God’s Light shine deeper in your heart today. Rather than praying to know the Will of God, ask the Lord to create in me a clean heart and renew a steadfast spirit. The trials and troubles you face are temporary. God makes them all subject to change in Christ the Redeemer. He makes all things new. Every renovation involves demolition. Salvation is provided to a broken heart. Repentance is the continual turning over more and more of our heart to the Living God to mold and shape us into who He created us to be. This is God’s Will for your life. Live it. Experience it. Breath Him in. Let go of sin. Invite the Light to shine into the deepest and darkest part of your heart. You haven’t missed God. He is only beginning to new work that is changing your life completely and forever. In Jesus Name, AMEN!
Psalm 51:9-11 (ESV) Hide your face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities. Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me.
