Judges 6:11-16 (NIV) The angel of the Lord came and sat down under the oak in Ophrah that belonged to Joash the Abiezrite, where his son Gideon was threshing wheat in a winepress to keep it from the Midianites. When the angel of the Lord appeared to Gideon, he said, “The Lord is with you, mighty warrior.” “Pardon me, my lord,” Gideon replied, “but if the Lord is with us, why has all this happened to us? Where are all his wonders that our ancestors told us about when they said, ‘Did not the Lord bring us up out of Egypt?’ But now the Lord has abandoned us and given us into the hand of Midian.” The Lord turned to him and said, “Go in the strength you have and save Israel out of Midian’s hand. Am I not sending you?” “Pardon me, my lord,” Gideon replied, “but how can I save Israel? My clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my family.” The Lord answered, “I will be with you, and you will strike down all the Midianites, leaving none alive.”
Hello, mighty warrior! Are you feeling it today? The summoning of God of the greatness hidden inside of you called potential. Yeah, me either. Most of the time, I feel like an ordinary woman. Attempting to be a good wife, decent mother, attentive friend, and hard worker just to name a few of many roles in life, I sometimes feel lost and unseen in the midst of the doing. And all too often feeling the sting of failure because I live an ordinary existence rather than an extraordinary life. Take Gideon, for example, he was hiding in the winepress attempting to thresh wheat. Fear had him struggling to provide for his family because there were invaders who might come and steal the meager sustenance of his labor. He was trying but not successful. He was surviving but not thriving. He felt small and insignificant yet remained dutiful in his work that day. His thoughts interrupted and labor halted by none other than an angel of the Lord who came to sit under the oak and watch him. The audacity of that angelic being to antagonize him in such a way. “The Lord is with you, mighty warrior.” I can only imagine the frustration and hostility rising up in Gideon. How often do believers feel the same way?
God did not address Gideon with his earthly name. He spoke directly to the destiny of this man. Not large in stature, but massive in purpose. God spoke the masterpiece who He designed. He called Gideon – Mighty Warrior. Gideon attempted to redirect the Lord to his current condition and circumstances. The limitations of his life too great to overcome by the one who was from the weakest clan and he being the least of his family. But the Lord wasn’t interested in excuses that day – He had a plan. It was a good plan. He had a man. It was this man created for such a time as this.
Be encouraged today. God sees you. Right where you are doing exactly what you are doing. He looks inside of us into our heart. If your intentions are set on Him and motives pure, even in the striving purpose is revealed. Sometimes our eyes wander to the grass on the other side of the fence. Why does it always seem greener? Some may tell you it is fake while others insist that you water your own. Comparison is a thief of joy. A “masterpiece” is not a replica. It is an original. You friend are an original. You are designed to be like anyone else. You are not called to anything else. You were created intentionally and with a purpose that only you can fulfill and that will be the very thing that can satisfy you.
Psalm 33:18-22 (NIV) But the eyes of the Lord are on those who fear him, on those whose hope is in his unfailing love, to deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine. We wait in hope for the Lord; he is our help and our shield. In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name. May your unfailing love be with us, Lord, even as we put our hope in you.
This is for all the Gideon’s out there. Working hard to do good. Pursuing a godly life. Keeping from evil. Yet still feel pressure but no results. Keep pressing. God sees you. He is moving you from insignificance to power by way of vulnerability. It is in our weakness that His Power is manifesting in our life according to grace. You are a masterpiece. You cannot compare your process to anyone else’s because you are not called or created to be anyone else. The Word of God is in you working its way out of you. Let His Spirit speak to your heart and mind today – He will confirm the Presence of God within you giving full assurance that He sees you! Do not abandon your position. God placed you there for a reason. There is a harvest to be had and seeds sown are not in vain. They will produce exactly what God promised – this is why you feel the pressure now. Like birthing a child, the promise must arrive through you. God sees you! More importantly He knows the potential inside of you and like Lazarus being called from the grave will continue to speak to it until it comes forth!
Psalm 34:12-15 (NIV) Whoever of you loves life and desires to see many good days, keep your tongue from evil and your lips from telling lies. Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it. The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are attentive to their cry…
