Never Walk Away

Never Walk Away

Proverbs 3:21-26 (Message) Dear friend, guard clear thinking and common sense with your life; don’t for a minute lose sight of them. They’ll keep your soul alive and well, they’ll keep you fit and attractive. You’ll travel safely, you’ll neither tire nor trip. You’ll take afternoon naps without a worry, you’ll enjoy a good night’s sleep. No need to panic over alarms or surprises, or predictions that doomsday’s just around the corner, because God will be right there with you; he’ll keep you safe and sound.

Proverbs 3:26 (NKJV) For the Lord will be your confidence, and will keep your foot from being caught.

Confidence – full trust; belief in the powers, trustworthiness, or reliability of a person or thing…

Confidence is a concrete word. Full trust is a total summation of our belief in the power, trustworthiness and reliability of God. To the believer this is the substance of our faith because confidence is the very thing that connects us to hope in the Lord. If you “Google” the word “confidence”, a plethora of articles are offered that promote “self-confidence”. I was just looking for the definition of the word not how to improve my “self”. It appears that the world is searching for “self-confidence” by the offering of information. Search engines are driven by the endless investigation of people on the internet.

Self-confidence is overrated as it is limited by my lack of power, untrustworthiness, and unreliability. That’s right. I can have self-confidence but it will always be limited by my humanity absent of God. God completes me. The plan and purpose for which I was ultimately created is not possible outside the full redemption process of God. I don’t have to like it yet it doesn’t change the truth. It is in full surrender of my weakness to the Lord that His Power becomes available to me by grace. (2 Corinthians 12:9) Where is the potential of self-confidence in a flawed creature? It is my completion in Jesus Christ that affords me any confidence at all worth having or investing my life in.

Dear friend, guard clear thinking and common sense with your life; don’t for a minute lose sight of them.

This is not a call to self-deprecation but rather an invitation to find new confidence. A confidence that will yield powerful results. God doesn’t belittle His Creation. No, He sent His Son to die for His Children. The Father has placed a high price and great value on you. We must have clear thinking and common sense based on the wisdom of His Word. The Word aka Jesus Christ is the written testimony of God’s Great Love demonstrated when perfection died for imperfection. God wants to give you confidence today. Confidence is found in Christ alone. He must become the foundation of our power, trust and reliability in life in order for the purpose of God to unfold in us and become the promise expressed in our daily living.

Pride demands self-confidence. If pride allows godly confidence to exist, grow and mature, it will die in the process. Suddenly, every good thing in our life becomes attributable to God the Father and not a product of our own hard work and motivation. To God be the Glory is not the testimony of the thriving ego, but rather the humbled heart.

They’ll keep your soul alive and well, they’ll keep you fit and attractive. You’ll travel safely, you’ll neither tire nor trip. You’ll take afternoon naps without a worry, you’ll enjoy a good night’s sleep. No need to panic over alarms or surprises, or predictions that doomsday’s just around the corner…

This translation is so relevant in a busy world of chaotic lives. Many people operate at such a frantic pace that an “afternoon nap without a worry” seems like an elusive luxury. Confidence in Christ will allow perfect peace in the midst of every raging storm. The impossible will not be a place of turmoil but trust that one has entered the realm of hope giving over to rest. Frantic feelings are not of God. Panic is not ever part of His Plan. When these emotions try to take over, it is a call to dig deeper, pray harder, and hold tighter to the hope given to us. The enemy cannot stop God’s Plan. He cannot kill God’s Purpose. He cannot steal God’s Promises. However, if he can create enough fear, doubt and worry – it will destroy faith and cause us to let go of our hope. Faith is given to us in measure as seed. Confidence in God is where we sow it. We must tend our fields and guard it carefully. Nurture it. Never abandoning it. For surely if our confident hope remains solely in the Lord, the field will always yield its harvest. It will be exceedingly and abundantly more than we could think, ask or imagine. (Ephesians 3:20)

Proverbs 3:26 (NKJV) For the Lord will be your confidence, and will keep your foot from being caught.

The Message Bible titles these scriptures as “Never Walk Away”. What if the life you long for really is possible? What if your dreams are not dead but dormant? What if your confidence is simply misplaced? We must change our mind about the Lord. Rather than finding a place for Him in our life, He must become our life. I must put my life in God’s Hands. Easier said than done especially when He seldom does it my way according to what is comfortable, convenient or controllable. The Lord wants to be our confidence today. He desires to fulfill His Plan including every single promise set forth in His Word. He created us with purpose. (Psalm 139) God will not release His Kingdom to traitors. He will not expose you to the life you long for at the detriment of your soul. He sees you as eternal. We live in the temporary with the hope of forever. To live in the realm of hope requires our confidence or full trust become completely invested in the Lord.

Did you walk away? I know that there are times when I have thought about it. Not because it was a good idea just because I allowed certain thoughts and ideas to go unobstructed. My hope is in the Lord. Every want, need and desire completely fulfilled in His Purpose and Plan for me. I know that yet I am human and struggle just like you to stay the course, keep the faith and never walk away.

2 Corinthians 10:5 (Message) We use our powerful God-tools for smashing warped philosophies, tearing down barriers erected against the truth of God, fitting every loose thought and emotion and impulse into the structure of life shaped by Christ.

“My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus Blood and Righteousness. I dare not trust the sweetest frame but wholly lean on Jesus Name.” Such an oldie, but a goodie! We must use our “powerful God-tools” to tear down the strongholds erected in our thoughts, to reconstruct our mind according to the Word of God and follow His Way. To command our heart to follow His Lead. Our life can be led by His Spirit but it is up to us to surrender first. Submitting our life to the Lord and His Way is the first step to every earthly success. We can be confident in the Lord. He is faithful. He is true. He doesn’t need me or you to “do” anything just to trust Him more. He will lead us. He will guide us. He will save us. He will deliver us. He will heal us. He will prosper us as our soul begins to prosper. (3 John 1:2)  It is in our commitment to remain confident in the Lord and never walk away that real life begins now and forevermore.

Romans 5:5 (Amplified) Such hope [in God’s promises] never disappoints us, because God’s love has been abundantly poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.
