Psalm 78:5-11 (NKJV) For He established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which He commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children; that the generation to come might know them, the children who would be born, that they may arise and declare them to their children, that they may set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep His commandments; and may not be like their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation, a generation that did not set its heart aright, and whose spirit was not faithful to God. The children of Ephraim, being armed and carrying bows, turned back in the day of battle. They did not keep the covenant of God; they refused to walk in His law, and forgot His works and His wonders that He had shown them.
The Lord has established His Testimony in you! Insert your name where Jacob is currently. He appointed a law in His Kingdom and provided grace for our admission. Those things that He has commanded and ordained for your life under the label of hope remain true even today. It doesn’t matter what you have done or how you arrived at the place called salvation. The road ahead of you holds every promise, blessing, victory and success prescribed for His Glory. You have been predestined to arise and be an example to the next generation of God’s Goodness and Faithfulness so that they may set their hope in God as well. However, humanity comes from a long line of stubborn and rebellious people. Those who have tasted and seen the sweetness and goodness of God’s Love and Faithfulness but turned back. Hearts are fickle. They are driven by emotions and feelings. Subject to condition, circumstances and situations. Christ must rule this wayward vessel set to lead the soul to victory. Our spirit must remain true to the good fight of faith and experience the triumph that it leads to.
The children of Ephraim, being armed and carrying bows, turned back in the day of battle. They did not keep the covenant of God; they refused to walk in His law, and forgot His works and His wonders that He had shown them.
These verses speak loudly to my heart today. The children of Ephraim set apart to win. Armed by God. Driven by destiny. Yet in the moment when it mattered most, they did not keep their covenant with God. They refused to walk in obedience to His Word. They forgot the wonderful works of the Father. His Wonders which never ceased but became elusive memories long since forgotten. They turned back though destined for victory. Lord, don’t let that be me today.
There are many things that can distract us from destiny. The Lord knows what lies ahead. According to Psalm 18, the Lord readies my feet for the mountaintops too hard for me to climb. He causes me to stand when fear would make me falter. He trains my hands for battle. He strengthens my arms for the war. The Lord will be my shield. His Right hand sustains me. He is help makes us great. Yet in all of the equipping, I will not be victorious if I choose not to remain faithful to His Cause. His Love is the driving force of my success. It is evident in every promise. Too often in the training and discipline of perseverance our body wants to quit. Our mind says this is ridiculous. All seems impossible and illogical when it comes to faith. So our heart begins to shake and shudder at the thought of being broken, failure, defeat or disappointment and begs us to turn back. Where do we go? To the easy and comfortable overtures of complacency. To the convenient and conventional acceptable practices as our mind conforms to worldly thoughts also known as excuses. The enemy will offer you an escape from the foolish things of God but friend be warned it is invitation to destruction. You are armed for battle and ready to win. Turning back only leads to defeat in the life of God’s People.
I Corinthians 15:53-57 (NKJV) For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.” “O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory?” The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Everyone is appointed once to die. It is inevitable. This body that I carry will one day pass away. The sad truth remains that not everyone lives. Freedom is a blessing. Where the Spirit of the Lord is there is freedom to others there is only bondage to sin and shame. Victory comes through our Lord Jesus Christ. Real freedom. True liberty. The kind that gives us peace of mind, heart, soul and body living in agreement with His Promise. Those who have real hope are not disappointed. In the parameters of my life are confined to my birth date and the one on my death certificate – I missed it. The little dash on etched on a tombstone between two dates does not define me or anyone else unless the bearer chose to turn back. God was with me before a single breath was taken or my first cry filled the air. He had a plan and purpose stretching through all eternity. He made me to win. God created me for victory.
I John 5:1-5 (NKJV) Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves Him who begot also loves him who is begotten of Him. By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep His commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome. For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?
Are you a believer? You were created and called to live a victorious life. God did not only create you for it and call you to it but through His Son – Jesus Christ who lives inside of you – He has equipped you for it. It is your destiny to win. To be triumphant in all things. To live a life of victory. To be an overcomer. To be powerful. To be prosperous. To be successful. To be influential. The only thing standing between you and this life is you. Crazy to think that on the verge of our greatest dreams and aspirations something so small and easy as giving up, giving in or turning back can rob us of such greatness. Failure is not fatal unless you choose to lay down and die. Delays are not detours unless you lose your way. Stumbles become falls only if you give into the momentum. Turning back is a choice. It is an option. You have the right to choose to press on. To press in. To seek His Presence. To summon His Spirit. To speak His Word. You have the authority to change the atmosphere. It is all in you. You choose whether it leads you to defeat or destiny. It is all up to you. It is completely up to me. God has empowered and equipped me. Christ lives in me. I choose the direction of my life. Right here. Right now. No turning back. I will press on.
Philippians 3:13-15 (NKJV) Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Therefore let us, as many as are mature, have this mind; and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal even this to you.
