Invisible Fire

Invisible Fire

Philippians 4:4-7 (Message) Celebrate God all day, every day. I mean, revel in him! Make it as clear as you can to all you meet that you’re on their side, working with them and not against them. Help them see that the Master is about to arrive. He could show up any minute! Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life.

In the movie Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby starring Will Ferrell as a famed race car driver. The comedy is not appropriate by any stretch but the image of Ricky Bobby being engulfed by “invisible fire” is relevant. When Ricky crashes during a race, he believes that he catches fire. He begins running around yelling for help. His friend comes to his immediate aid also shouting, “Don’t let the invisible fire burn my friend!” But there is no fire. It is just fear manifesting. Oh the invisible fire. You know worry can be an invisible fire that will slowly consume every bit of our faith if allowed to continue. I fight those flames of fear on a regular basis. Do you? It seems like the enemy is constantly throwing fuel on anxious thoughts and worrisome considerations until they ignite into a raging inferno taking over our thoughts and filling our mind with lies that are too thick to overcome. It is up to us to fight the “invisible fire” created by fear or false evidence appearing life-size and real creating havoc in our mind, will and emotions.

Fear is the enemy’s tactic to steal, kill and destroy the good things in our life given by the Hand of God to His Children. In the garden, he did not force Adam or Eve to taste the fruit just presented a lie wrapped in fear that created doubt in their minds. It really is that easy. When I wake up each morning, it seems that once my mind attains consciousness – I hand reaches out with overwhelming responsibilities and overbearing concerns that if received will cause defeat, if only in my heart and mind, before my feet hit the ground. No weapon formed against me will prosper. Greater is He who is in me than he that is in the world. I am the head and not the tale. I am blessed beyond any trial or temptation that I may encounter. Nothing is impossible because God is with me and He is for me. I could go on and on with the Promises of God laid out in His Word. However, if we cannot overcome the invisible fire of fear, anxiety, worry and doubt inside of us – it will slowly but surely overtake us.

Celebrate God all day, every day. I mean, revel in him!

Each day must begin with celebratory praise and worship. Worship doesn’t tell God who He is. It reminds us of Who He is and all He does in our life. Thanksgiving will overtake our needs, wants and desires uncertainty with confidence. There is a difference in simply acknowledging someone when they walk by with a quick nod or subtle wave. Some people you might actually engage with stopping for a quick conversation or an embrace. Oh, but then there is celebration. To those who believe that victory belongs to them – this is much less of a stretch. The kind of celebration that makes our feelings regarding that person known to all. Like two old dear friends who meet again. You know, with a loud girl scream running like a wild person to get to them. Or when your favorite sports team enters the stadium and the crowd goes wild. We must have confidence in God. We must celebrate Him from that source of conviction.

Make it as clear as you can to all you meet that you’re on their side, working with them and not against them. Help them see that the Master is about to arrive.

Kindness and generosity expressed towards other people take the attention off of self. This is always a beneficial exercise. First of all, as believers, it is our duty to be ambassadors of Jesus Christ. To be His Hands, Feet and Voice in our community. It is from this place that our mind wanders from our own needs, wants and desires to be a blessing to others. This will change our heart and mind as our lives line up with Jesus Christ.

Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns.

Don’t do it. It is up to me to deal with worry and fear. I must fan the flame of God’s Spirit within me. (2 Timothy 1:6) Recognize the lie of the enemy. This requires complete and intimate knowledge of God’s Word. The kind that cannot be attained by good preaching once or twice a week. This is acquired by digging deep into God’s Word, tearing it apart, extracting truth, and applying it fully to our heart and mind. It means that when the enemy meets us with fear, doubt and insecurity that our response today is “not today satan”. I am the only one who can put out the invisible fire burning up my courage and confidence in God. He has given me everything that I need to have a rich and satisfying life. The enemy will stop at nothing to make sure that I believe that lie that there is something greater than the Power of the Living God that is within me. It is simply not true.

2 Corinthians 10:4-6 (NIV)  The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. And we will be ready to punish every act of disobedience, once your obedience is complete.

How do I fight the invisible fire of fear? You must use the divine power hidden in your fragile and broken heart to demolish strongholds. Our experience in life often shapes our image of God. We must demolish arguments against God’s Love and Devotion voiced by the past and people who left us feeling unloved and unwanted. It is important that the Knowledge of God forms a new identity in us as Children of God. We must learn to “take captive EVERY thought” that is contrary to God’s Word and His Work in us. God didn’t give us the spirit of fear. Therefore, the only way to have fear is for our hands and heart to take hold of it. We must learn to punish every act of a disobedient heart and mind including when the produce is worry, stress, anxiety and fear. Complete obedience to God is born of absolute confidence in Him.

Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life.

If you are like me, you have read every provisional verse in the Bible. You know that the Lord promises to supply our needs completely. He will give us the desire of our hearts. God has provided it all before our first breath was drawn or cry heard. It is by trust that I can shove all my concerns across the table to God and lift my hands in worship. It is not easy. It is a daily trip to the Cross for me. The more I fight the fiery fear that licks at the edges of my new forming faith – it is my responsibility to protect that faith with all that is within me. Those who learn to totally trust the Lord will experience God’s Wholeness. Everything coming together for good. The Lord will come and settle our mind, will and emotions if only invited. Celebrated! Jesus will displace worry in our life with himself. This produces perfect peace and inexpressible joy. You can have it! By daily working to take each worry, care, concern, burden, stress, anxiousness, shame, and regret…I could go on and on – all those “things” the enemy makes you think can keep you from experiencing the fullness of God’s Love and Faithfulness – if only we choose to believe God’s Word for us – we will overcome the invisible fire of fear once and for all.

Proverbs 3:5-9 (Message) Trust God from the bottom of your heart;   don’t try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go;   he’s the one who will keep you on track. Don’t assume that you know it all.    Run to God! Run from evil! Your body will glow with health, your very bones will vibrate with life! Honor God with everything you own give him the first and the best.
