Hebrews 4:14-16 (NLT) So then, since we have a great High Priest who has entered heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we believe. This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin. So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.
We sing as small children, “Jesus loves me this I know… for the Bible tells me so… little ones to Him belong… they are weak but He is strong… yes, Jesus loves me… yes, Jesus loves me… yes, Jesus loves me… for the Bible tells me so.” I wonder what might happen in the lives of believers who truly believed that Jesus loves them. Someone… anyone… who held firmly to the belief that He is not a distant god beyond our reach who withholds His Power and gives it only to those of His Choosing. To know who I am in Jesus Christ and what He has done and what He will do changes everything. If I could just get a glimpse of Him… or maybe reach out and skim the hem of His Robe… maybe then something… anything can happen… maybe in my weakness He will make me strong.
Mark 5:24-30 (NLT) Jesus went with him, and all the people followed, crowding around him. A woman in the crowd had suffered for twelve years with constant bleeding. She had suffered a great deal from many doctors, and over the years she had spent everything she had to pay them, but she had gotten no better. In fact, she had gotten worse. She had heard about Jesus, so she came up behind him through the crowd and touched his robe. For she thought to herself, “If I can just touch his robe, I will be healed.” Immediately the bleeding stopped, and she could feel in her body that she had been healed of her terrible condition. Jesus realized at once that healing power had gone out from him, so he turned around in the crowd and asked, “Who touched my robe?”
I haven’t visited this woman in the Word of God who had the issue lately. Although I know a few, and may even be considered one myself on any given day. However, she is a living breathing example of faith born of desperation. She had tried everything to resolve her physical ailment. It only got worse. She was bleeding for 12 years which caused anemia and profound weakness in her body. I am sure she was frail and helpless trying to navigate the crowd. It doesn’t say that she if she was a Jew or not but this issue of hers would have caused isolation from her religion and its social circle as well. She heard that Jesus was coming. She heard that He was a healer. A miracle working Messiah was in her midst. She believed enough to get up and get ready that day heading out into the busy streets. She dove into the crowd. She was able to touch the hem of his robe. Does that mean she was crawling, knocked down in her weakness, or maybe taken out by her brokenness so that all she could do was stretch her hand toward Jesus grasping the dusty hem of his robe? Yes. Was it enough? Absolutely.
It wasn’t enough just to heal her. Jesus wanted to know her. Stopping on His Way, he wanted to see her face-to-face. Jesus always responds to our faith no matter how weak and frail it may be. He wants to release His Power in our life and more importantly know the recipient. Do you need to touch Jesus today? Are you desperate for healing? Are you longing for a change? Do you need to unload heavy burdens? Are you ready to return home? Jesus is always ready to receive us. He wants to release His Power in our life. Weakness is essential. It is the hidden key. It unlocks our faith pressing us beyond comfort and convenience to experience power outside our control. We must believe to receive. Really! That’s all that is required. For those who do, the invitation is clear.
So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.
Do you need Jesus today? Friend, I need Jesus every single day. Every single hour. Every single moment. Down to every single breath! I cannot live without Him. It began when I reached for Him and He was there. His Power released in my life over and over in response to miniscule mustard seeds of faith alone the way. Now I run to Him every day! You can, too! Jesus will always respond to our faith. He will release His Power immediately into our weakness and give us new strength!
