Psalm 139:1-5 (TLB) O Lord, you have examined my heart and know everything about me. You know when I sit or stand. When far away you know my every thought. You chart the path ahead of me and tell me where to stop and rest. Every moment you know where I am. You know what I am going to say before I even say it. You both precede and follow me and place your hand of blessing on my head.
What if it is true? What if God really knows us thoroughly, loves us completely and has already planned to love us forever despite our wicked rebellion and wretched state? What if God’s Love for us truly is inescapable? I am doing a Bible study in Psalm 139. The longer I live and experience the Love of God through His Son – Jesus Christ – the more in awe that I become as the details come together and the masterplan revealed. In all the wandering and wondering that weak faith and troubled trust allows, the journey has been up the rough side of the mountain and down the slippery slopes that lead to valleys of darkness yet through it all God is faithful. The faithfulness of God has proven that it is not dependent on anything I think or do but completely based on His Unfailing Love for me.
He examined my heart a long time ago and knows absolutely everything about me. That is a frightening thought at least for me. He knows the places I sit and stand including all the times He told me to “sit” but like a rebellious child I was “standing” on the inside. Even on those days that I was far from the Lord, He knew my every thought and relentlessly pursued me – not with an iron rod or shackles but a robe of righteousness and fresh anointing for the battle wounds sustained in the fight. He charts the path before me and though I feel independent doing it my way – He gives provision and protection even in the wildernesses of life. All the while whispering to me – the way I should go and offering enough grace to turn back if I have fallen into darkness.
Every moment YOU know where I am. I am so thankful for a God that sees me in the Light and pursues me even in the darkness. He is so good, loving and kind that He would be well within His Right as Sovereign God to leave me to my foolishness and let me endure the consequences but that’s just not who He is. Even in the declarations of my mouth – the power of life or death that rests in the tongue – God is faithful to have a Word of Truth. He gives us a coal to cleanse us and new vocabulary of hope for those who choose to receive it.
He precedes me and follows me with His Hand of Blessing on my head. Wherever you are today – if Jesus lives inside of you – the Lord has placed His Hand of Blessing upon your head. The identifier to the enemy that you are His Beloved and that you belong to Him. There is nothing that can separate us from the Love of God in Christ Jesus. (Romans 8) Yet the lie of the enemy today is that your past is too dark, you present too uncertain and your future is doomed because of something you did. He tells you that you are too broken to be put back together. Your mistakes too many to rise to the top. The closed door of disappointment is unlocked but you are convinced life is hopeless. Well, not any more. You cannot escape the Love of God. You cannot escape His Plan or Promise. He has you hemmed in today.
Psalm 23:4-6 (TLB) Even when walking through the dark valley of death I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me, guarding, guiding all the way. You provide delicious food for me in the presence of my enemies. You have welcomed me as your guest; blessings overflow! Your goodness and unfailing kindness shall be with me all of my life, and afterwards I will live with you forever in your home.
God’s Plan for your life includes every peak and valley. There is not a day or detail that He has not carefully planned out for you. Brokenness doesn’t scare Him. In fact, it is the very thing that summons His Creative Power in the fullest to heal, restore, redeem, renew and release our full potential. You are never a failure in God but He sees your future – the potential logged for you long before your first breath. God knew the highlights and lowlights of your life from the beginning providing the sufficiency of grace necessary to save you and release His Purpose in your life. All you have to do is have a little faith – He doesn’t even require a lot of faith out of us – only a tiny mustard seed will change everything in an instant.
The New International Version of Psalm 23:5 says, “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies and anoint my head with oil…” He is already there. In every fight for faith or temptation of the enemy, God has already provided for you. He knew where you would end up and decided to meet you there. God is a gracious loving God who never leaves or forsakes us even when we are tempted to give up on ourselves. Blessings overflow in the life of the believer. Those who believe will constantly encounter opportunities to turn back to the Father and head home no matter how far they go because He is always right there. Crazy huh?
Psalm 139:16 (TLB) You saw me before I was born and scheduled each day of my life before I began to breathe. Every day was recorded in your book!
Every single day of our life is prerecorded. This is unfathomable to me. God knows my good days and bad days. He knows the days that I live faith forward and the days I fall miserably backward. Each and every day He decided in advance to love me and pursue me. He feels the same way about you, too. The Lord has no favorites. He doesn’t lie or change His Mind because God doesn’t have feelings. Emotions are foreign to Him as humans experience them. The way God thinks and acts is already decided and not subject to change. He doesn’t have good days and bad ones. People do not offend God. You either love Him or you don’t. He desires us all. He gave His All to have us. The Father never stops pursuing us with kindness, love and mercy. He recorded our life because He predestined us to be one with Him again. Day by day, minute by minute – the Lord is with you. His Love is constant. His Care endless. He has provided everything you need to escape the dark places and walk in His Light. Free to choose – the rest is up to us. We serve the Inescapable God!
Romans 8:28-29 (TLB) And we know that all that happens to us is working for our good if we love God and are fitting into his plans. For from the very beginning God decided that those who came to him—and all along he knew who would—should become like his Son, so that his Son would be the First, with many brothers.
