Isaiah 66:12-13 (ESV) For thus says the Lord: “Behold, I will extend peace to her like a river, and the glory of the nations like an overflowing stream; and you shall nurse, you shall be carried upon her hip, and bounced upon her knees. As one whom his mother comforts, so I will comfort you; you shall be comforted in Jerusalem.
Peace like a river. Oh the Peace of God that transcends and transforms a believer to overcome the wind and waves of a stormy life. God desires to give us His Peace. The kind of peace that calms our heart releasing the grip of fear, anxiety, worry and cares to be overcome with stillness. The mind of Christ promotes complete and total trust in the care of God for you and His Unfailing Love that turns doubt to confidence that affords us rest over striving in every situation. God desires for His People to have peace like a river and glory like an overflowing stream. Are you at peace today? Do you live in the stillness of God?
Psalm 23:1-2 (ESV) The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters.
He leads me beside still waters. This phrase has been resonating in my heart and captivating my mind the last couple of days. The sense that the Lord is leading me to a place of total contentment. The idea that He is making me lie down in a green pasture rather constantly seeking greener grass in other pastures. To solidly depend on Him and His Grace for the sufficiency in my life. By turning every aspect of living over to the Lord and yoking myself to Christ to establish His Peace that passes understanding by trusting Him more. The Lord is my shepherd. Can you say that with me today? Is God leading you? Or is it other people? Society? Normal life? Opinions? Trends? When we allow the Lord to lead us it is to a place of confidence and contentment it will produce peace like a river. He makes us lie down in the place or position of our current conditions thereby teaching us humility and submission to His Plan and His Power. Suddenly – those who love and trust Him will begin to prosper in that place and see that the grass isn’t greener on the other side but right there in the stillness of God. He leads me beside still waters. Not every sea has a storm, sometimes it is our lack of trust that causes us to step into the swirling vortex of hurricane living where once again God shows Himself faithful even though confidence might cause us to be brought into the safe harbor of His Love. (Psalm 107:30)
Psalm 46:1-7 (ESV) God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling. Selah There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy habitation of the Most High. God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved; God will help her when morning dawns. The nations rage, the kingdoms totter; he utters his voice, the earth melts. The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah
God is our refuge. He promises to be our strength. However, like any form of shelter, it is in our willingness to enter in that such covering is established. The Lord will be the shepherd of those who follow. The Word of God says his sheep know His Voice and follow Him. Yet, it is human nature to decide the persona of God based on our feelings and emotions. To decide who He will be to us rather than concentrating on who His Word tells us that He is. God will lead us to lie down in green pastures. We must choose to follow Him. He will lead us to still waters that restore, refresh and renew us. We must follow Him. God has stated that He is a very present help in trouble – will He be who we run to? There is nothing to fear the believer because the Lord will do exactly as He promised. Stillness of living in His Presence is a disciplined belief to follow the Lord with confident full expectation that He is who He says and will do exactly as He promised. We must simply follow Him into His Presence choosing to live in His Peace.
Psalm 37:3-7 (ESV) Trust in the Lord, and do good; dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness. Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act. He will bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your justice as the noonday. Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way, over the man who carries out evil devices!
Trust in the Lord produces the stillness that is given when peace is established. The good fight of faith isn’t against anyone else but an inner striving to call to order our body, mind and spirit fully submitting to the Lord. Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life for those who choose to follow Him. He will never force us to do anything against our will but pursues us with His Unfailing Love and Goodness. He offers us a better life. We decide our commitment level. We choose our dedication. Those who choose to be still and wait on the Lord, to trust Him more, and commit their way to Him – they find the greener pastures and still waters once thought impossible!
Psalm 46:10 (ESV) “Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah
