Flip the Switch

Flip the Switch

James 1:16-18 (NIV) Don’t be deceived, my dear brothers and sisters. Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. He chose to give us birth through the word of truth that we might be a kind of first fruits of all he created.

Walking through the dimly lit house in the wee hours of the morning, occasionally I will stumble over a dog toy along the way. The light is not bright enough to see the floor or maybe my eyes are not open yet. I could probably navigate the house from memory if the dog didn’t leave her bones and balls laying around but she is following the example of her human “sibs” who discard belongings from the back door through the entire house and some even make it to their rooms. When entering a dark room, it is human nature to reach for the light switch. Even in the event of a power outage, our brains are trained to try to eliminate darkness by flipping the switch.

We are Children of Light. Called from darkness into His Glorious Light, Jesus came to illuminate the way from here to eternity. He came to be the Light and to put His Light in us. This is the attraction for people who are wandering in darkness. They long for the light. The Light of God’s Love, His Son, who lives in us is not only a beacon for a lost and dying world but also given to us to show us all the hidden blessings in our life. His Light is the kind that takes seeds of faith and draws them from the fertile soil of our heart to become the substance of our life.

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of heavenly lights. As Children of the Living God, our life is filled with “every good and perfect gift” from above. The Word of God ordains to us every spiritual blessing. Are you blessed today? Do you have spiritual gifts in abundance? Health? Wealth? Prosperity overflowing into generosity all around you? What if I told you that you have everything in your life you need to prosper…would you believe me? What if I said that your needs are already provided for? You have more than enough. You may disagree, but the truth is our life is already supplied from creation. Psalm 139:16 tells us that every day of our natural life is ordained before a single day came to be. Jeremiah 29:11 promises that God created us with a plan and purpose with a future and hope. Our life is ordained to be blessed and prosperous. Where is it? Good question.

Luke 15:8-9 (NIV) “Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins and loses one. Doesn’t she light a lamp, sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it? And when she finds it, she calls her friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost coin.’”

A woman had ten silver coins. They belonged to her. She put them in her wallet. She had plans for that money. Purpose for which she needed it. But lo and behold, she lost one of the silver coins. What did she do? She lit a lamp, swept the floor and carefully searched for it until she found it. What did she do when she discovered it again? She rejoiced. She told all her family and friends. There are some important point in these two verses that can change our receivership from the Kingdom radically.

The woman knew what she had. She believed that all ten coins belonged to her. Do you believe that the blessings of heaven and all the benefits of the Kingdom belong to you? You own them because Jesus Christ gave them to you. I believe that if Christians truly believed the Word of God that they would live differently. Remember the widow who had a flask of oil. The prophet told her to gather as many jars as she could from neighbors and she did. She began to pour the oil. What happened? The oil did not run dry until she stopped providing vessels to carry it. What if everything you need, want and desire is already hidden in our life and it is our ignorance or unwillingness to look for it or take ownership of it that keeps us living in lack? God has already ordained the fullest extent of His Blessing to us. Jesus already provided enough grace to restore our relationship with God, the Father, and Giver of every good and perfect gift. We must believe to receive. Our belief must motivate us to seek the Lord wholeheartedly.

Doesn’t she light a lamp, sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it? If you believe that the Kingdom belongs to you, and that His Goodness is for the land of the living (Psalm 27) are you looking for it? Seeking it? Searching after Him wholeheartedly? The woman knew she had ten silver coins. They belonged to her so she searched until she found the very thing that was missing because she believed. She was confident that she had ten to begin with and diligently sought after that which was missing.

John 12:46 (NIV) I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness.

Jesus told the people, “I am the Light of the World. Whoever follows me will NEVER walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” When the Light of His Love fills us, it illuminates the very place of our existence to godly possibilities and divine impartation. Jesus in us releases us from darkness and death to see the predestined purpose by which we are created and amply supplied to fulfill. He changes our perspective from darkness to light. We decide the way life will be perceived in our choice between darkness and light.

Our perception is determined by direction. True repentances changes our direction and thereby our perception of life changes. We are to live as Children of the Light. (Ephesians 5:8-11) Following in the footsteps and instructions of our Savior and Lord who gave us this glorious light to lead the way to benefit and blessing of the Kingdom. His Word becomes the lamp for our feet. (Psalm 119:105) “Unfolding” His Word each day draws us closer to the light of His Amazing Love. (Psalm 119:130) Our relationship with Jesus grows as we study the Word and seek Him daily. He is the Word. There is no possible way to know the identity, character or person of Jesus Christ without daily interaction with Him through His Spirit, in the Word and communicating in prayer. We must know the Word to discern between light and darkness. The enemy masquerades as an “angel of light”. (2 Corinthians 11:14-15) The only weapon or trap that is effective against God’s People is his lies. We can dispel any lie with the Truth. Truth is the light that drives away the darkness of deception.

Colossians 1:9-12 (NIV) For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light.

You don’t have to stumble in the darkness. Within each one of us is a great light, His Name is Jesus Christ. Greater is He that is in me…then he that is in the world. I must let that light shine and drive out all the dark places shadowing provision, purpose and prosperity in my life. I do that by searching for the Lord wholeheartedly. (Jeremiah 29:13) Loving Jesus with my whole heart means there are some things I must let go of so that His Light can fill that space.

I have an inheritance. I am amply supplied. I am blessed coming in and blessed going out because I live in partnership with God through His Son, Jesus. I must believe. I must have faith to actively pursue all that God has for me and ordained for my life. That means I cannot go my own way, running to and fro or wandering with each whim. It means that I must persist like the woman who lost a silver coin and would not stop until she found what was missing. She was confident. She was focused. She was determined. I must be the same about my covenant with God through His Son Jesus.

What’s missing in your life today? Love…joy…peace…contentment…full satisfaction? If God said it, He meant it and Jesus died for you to have it. It all belongs to you. Every good and perfect gift given from the Father to you is still on its way. He will fulfill my heart’s desire. God is good! He loves me. I can have confidence. I can boldly approach His Throne. Perhaps you just need a little more light to see what is right in front of you. The enemy will scatter his lies around to delay, discourage and even destroy you but the Light will show you each pitfall, trap and snare so you can deftly avoid it. Just flip the switch…let the Light of His Love shine on you!

John 3:19-21 (NIV) his is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.
