2 Corinthians 3:9-11 (NKJV)
For if the ministry of condemnation had glory, the ministry of righteousness exceeds much more in glory. For even what was made glorious had no glory in this respect, because of the glory that excels. For if what is passing away was glorious, what remains is much more glorious.
More glorious. How is it possible to move from glory to glory in our relationship with the Lord? It amazes me every time that just when our life seems good – God somehow makes it better. Not in tangible things, but in the intangible things that money cannot buy, power cannot apprehend, and time cannot make right. The Gifts of God such as love, joy, and fulfillment. Even in the discomfort of change and the rattling of a shift, the Lord blankets our heart and mind with wonderful peace as He prepares the way for our next tiny steps of faith. When faith and confident hope are the passion and purpose of life, it takes us from the outer courts of God as entertainment or church as a social club moving us from onlooker and bystander to full participation. Such a commitment moves us from glory to glory thought not always an easy transition, I have discovered that the circumstances of change and that which leads us to endurance is really a gateway to His Glory!
Your life has the potential to be glorious. No matter what the details, how rough the past or unpromising the future looks – faith offers the potential of His Glory to all. Grace makes the transition possible. The only thing standing between you and the Glory of God today – well is you…(and me). The ministry of condemnation or the Law given to Moses was a list of detailed consequences of sin and the retribution that God required for mankind to survive in the realm of eternity. It was clearly impossible for man to live a sinless existence. The Law demonstrated our need for a Savior and our hopeless situation. Jesus offers us the Law of the Spirit which allows us to repent of our sin and be justified or just as if we never sinned in the Sight of God. (Romans 8:2) This raises the standard of our life to His Glorious Standard once more or at least has the potential and promise to when fully accepted. (Romans 3:21-24)
The Glory of God is exceedingly and abundantly more than we can think or ask. This is the way that God wants us to live. Totally dependent and fully expectant of His Word, Will and Way activated in our life. To live in His Glory every day and every possible way. Do you want a more glorious life? The steps are simple yet challenging as we leave behind the things of this world to be consumed fully and completely by God.
Exodus 24:16-18 (NKJV)
Now the glory of the Lord rested on Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it six days. And on the seventh day He called to Moses out of the midst of the cloud. The sight of the glory of the Lord was like a consuming fire on the top of the mountain in the eyes of the children of Israel. So Moses went into the midst of the cloud and went up into the mountain. And Moses was on the mountain forty days and forty nights.
The entry way to God’s Glory is to come to Him. There are some who are willing to come to the foot of the mountain or perhaps a more modern example might be the door of the church. They are comfortable sitting in the padded chair in air conditioned comfort with ushers to attend their needs. The music is pleasant and the volume just right. The preacher speaks of God’s Love as not to offend. Those are the people who leave feeling pretty good about themselves until diving right back into the defeated, disappointed and depressed state as before. This is not God’s Will. It is not His Way. It was never His Plan. Why do we do it?
“The sight of the Glory of the Lord was like a consuming fire…in the eyes of the Children of Israel.” They were afraid. Many times this is the very thing that keeps people from inching closer to the Lord or taking a baby step of faith. What if? What if I have to be uncomfortable? What if I have to change? What if there is pain in the process? What if? You will be changed in the Presence of God. You will be transformed. It may be painful and will certainly be uncomfortable. It will also be worth it.
Exodus 33:17-19 (NKJV)
So the Lord said to Moses, “I will also do this thing that you have spoken; for you have found grace in My Sight, and I know you by name.” And he said, “Please, show me Your Glory.” Then He said, “I will make all My Goodness pass before you, and I will proclaim the Name of the Lord before you. I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.”
Many times one’s pursuit of God begins as a corporate endeavor although to continue it must become a personal one. Moses had stood in the Presence of God many times, but still had to ask the Lord to show Him “HIS” Glory. This is so important. We take the idea of God and make Him our own concept. Wrapping Him in human expectation and natural outcomes believing only for what we think will make our life better. His Thoughts are not like our thoughts. His Ways are so much higher than our ways. Like wrestling candy from a baby to exchange it for a better source of nutrition, the Lord must wait on us to let go of our way, our wants, our needs and desires to fully accept the perfection that He has prepared for us. He makes good of every detail our life when we surrender and give Him our whole heart. (Romans 8:28) God is a gentleman. He does not force His Love or Affection on us but we must be ready to receive.
Hebrews 12:28-29 (NKJV)
Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear. For our God is a consuming fire.
The Kingdom of God is unshakable. It does not change according to mankind but is consistent with God’s Word sustained completely by His Power. This is why we can build a life of faith and confidence on exactly what the Lord has spoken to us. His Spirit will never lead, guide or direct us to do or say anything contrary to the Word of God. With this idea, know that God is a consuming fire because He cannot change. As we edge, creep and crawl closer to Him and deeper in His Presence the only one who changes is you and me. God is constant which makes His Love unconditional making salvation possible and His Grace more than enough.
2 Corinthians 3:16-18 (NKJV)
Nevertheless when one turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.
What if I were to tell you that the only thing standing between us and a more glorious life today is the veil we construct in His Presence? Would you begin to understand that just on the other side of the barrier of sin, disbelief, unwillingness or disobedience is a more glorious standard of living? It is time to remove the curtain sewn back together by human hands and allow His Spirit to move freely in our life once again. His Glory belongs to us. It is more glorious than that written about before Jesus came to us. The Lord is the Spirit and where the Spirit of the Lord is there is liberty. Liberty is freedom. The enemy wants you to think that the Presence of God is binding and constricting, no fun, full or nothing but rules and regulations. Well, I am calling the devil a liar today straight to his ugly face. I have seen God’s Glory in our life. Just when I think God couldn’t do more for us – He does. Over and over again. I don’t have to do anything other than enter His Presence. The Lord has come to transform us so that we can live in the Glory of God again. Not just glory but glory to glory. He wants to make our life more glorious. The rest is up to me and you.
Ephesians 3:14-19 (NKJV)
For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height— to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
Do live a mundane existence today? As a believer, it may not have always been like this but somehow your faith in God has become a routine habit rather than a fiery passionate love affair with Jesus. Or maybe it all sounds too good to be true, your life is a mess. You have called on the Name of Jesus but nothing happened. Nothing will until you fully intend to give your life to Him. To use your faith to become rooted and grounded in the Love of Jesus making Him the center of your heart and life will take some effort by wrestling back the parts once surrendered to the enemy handing them back to their Creator. Who better to change you into who you were created to be? The pursuit of God’s Glory is culminate in this to comprehend together the width, length, depth and height of Christ’s Love for us and be filled with the Fullness of God. It is in this place that we live glory to glory. We don’t have to do anything but give our heart, mind, body and soul to Jesus every day. Just to say, here I am God. Can you do it? Will you do it? Will you allow Jesus to make your life more glorious today?
Ephesians 3:20-21 (NKJV)
Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
