Make Peace – A Devotion

Make Peace

Ephesians 2:14-18 (NKJV)

For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation, having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace, and that He might reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross, thereby putting to death the enmity. And He came and preached peace to you who were afar off and to those who were near. For through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father.

There is nothing in this world that will ever compare to the Peace of God when it comes in and covers your life. Jesus died to give us the opportunity to make peace with God once again. God is the author of peace never confusion. (I Corinthians 14:33) He has authored other things in for our life including a plan for our good and faith so I must believe that these all work together to make my life peaceful as well. Thanks to Jesus, we can now enter a covenant relationship with God again by marriage to the Lord. Who doesn’t love a wedding? Those who are planning it struggle sometimes I must admit. Whenever different personalities and individuals come together for a common cause there can be discord. It is up to all parties to find the place of compromise, work together and make it happen. There is something about weddings and funerals that bring out the worst in people sometimes. So why would their not be strife as we come together in covenant with the Lord including His Peace that passes all understanding? Jesus Christ is our peace. This means that I must surrender my life to His Will and Way to have peace in my life. I want peace. I need peace. I must have peace or else I might just lose my mind in the chaos that is my life right now. Jesus broke down the wall that kept me from the Presence of God so now I can come boldly before His Throne. Jesus abolished the “enmity” or the Law so I don’t have to be perfect any longer just faithful to the Lord. Jesus did not stop there. We are not tolerated by God but passionately loved and pursued by the One who loves us most. We have access to the Holy Spirit which is a Gift from God to empower us with the fruit of His Spirit including peace. (Galatians 5:22-23) For those of you tiptoeing through the tulips of life without a care in the world, this may seem like a way of life but for those who are fighting their way through life it is an essential survival tool desperately needed and often overlooked.

You can have peace in every situation. You must make it in your life. The Holy Spirit is producing it inside you now it is up to you to hang on to it. It is of great worth. Jesus Christ died for you to walk in peace for the rest of your natural life until you are forever with God. It’s time to make peace in your life.

Psalm 85:10-13 (NKJV)

Mercy and truth have met together; righteousness and peace have kissed. Truth shall spring out of the earth, and righteousness shall look down from heaven. Yes, the Lord will give what is good; and our land will yield its increase. Righteousness will go before Him, and shall make His footsteps our pathway.

Righteousness and peace have kissed which is a symbol of intimacy and covenant. Righteousness and peace are covenant partners. They go together. Without righteousness, people remain at odds with God and there is a division. This division produces unrest, dissatisfaction and discontentment in our life. We were created for more but will not find it outside of God’s Plan for our life. We must do His Will to find His Peace. People need the Spirit of God living, breathing and working inside of them to make this all possible. Peace with God produces prosperity in Him. Things begin to grow. Voids are filled. Our life begins to come together to resemble His Grace, Mercy and Love at work in it. Peace is produced as we align our life for righteousness sake striving to be in right standing with God’s Word, Will and Way.

When our son was diagnosed with cancer, the priorities in my life immediately shifted. It was like the basket of worries and cares that I carried squarely on my shoulders was uplifted and the contents scattered about. Suddenly all the things that seemed overly important in my life were not worth the effort anymore. All I knew was that I had to learn to trust, lean on, rely on and depend on the Lord with my whole life or I would die of a broken heart. It was coming. I was broken and bleeding from the inside out. When the numbness went away and I could feel again, although the greatest burden I have ever known was sitting right in front of me, I felt weightless. I just knew deep down inside that God would heal our son. Not sure how, or when, or really even why, but I knew. I had to decide in that moment if I would fight for peace or run for cover. Sometimes finding true peace means testing and challenging everything we know about the Lord for validity and truth. When it all comes together, it is worth it in the end.

Isaiah 32:16-18 (NKJV)

Then justice will dwell in the wilderness, and righteousness remain in the fruitful field. The work of righteousness will be peace, and the effect of righteousness, quietness and assurance forever. My people will dwell in a peaceful habitation, in secure dwellings, and in quiet resting places…

Jesus Christ is our Savior and Lord. When we come to the Lord, most people do not know what they are in for as they have a Santa-Claus image plastered in their brain telling them that everything will change for the better overnight. This rarely happens. Righteousness is not in turning our life over to the Lord because that is repentance. Repentance is the turning point. Righteousness is that first step we take in the right direction as we run back to the Lord. Each step toward God through Jesus Christ that we take the work of righteousness begins which is peace. The effect of righteousness on our life is “quietness and assurance forever”. I love that. God promises no matter what is going on around you or in your natural life, you can live by faith which is an act of righteousness that produces peace in our life day by day. Peace is a place that we live, breathe and move in God. It is the place of right standing with the Lord.

Psalm 34:14 (NKJV) Depart from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.

Before religion comes along and complicates things, let’s break down the pursuit of the kind of righteousness that produces peace in our life. It is simple. Depart from evil. Repent. Turn around. Do good. Don’t just talk about it. Don’t admire it. Do it. Seek peace. In every relationship that we have, peace should be primary even at the forsaking of self. Humility requires it. Such behavior identifies us as sons and daughters of God. (Matthew 5:9) Find another way to live God’s Way and you will run right into peace without even trying. God’s Way always leads to peace. (Isaiah 48:17-18) His Peace never ends but remains forever. (Isaiah 54:10) God is fighting all our battles for us today. Jesus has gone before us to make the Way and prepare a place for us to finally rest. But in the meantime, we can have peace. We must learn to hold on to our peace. (Exodus 14:13-14)

Numbers 6:22-26 (NKJV)
And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying: “Speak to Aaron and his sons, saying, ‘This is the way you shall bless the children of Israel. Say to them: “The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you; The Lord lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace.”’

This is known as the priestly blessing that was begun with Aaron and his sons. But now you and I have become His Priests so this applies to our life. “ But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.” (I Peter 2:9-10) The Lord has done everything in His Power to give you peace today now it is up to you to make peace with the Lord.

John 16:33 (NKJV)

These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”

My life had to be completely turned upside down to find the peace that God reserved just for me. All hell had to break loose before I could see the Plan and Power of God that was just on the other side of my rebellion. Any time that my life is contrary to right standing with God – I am subject to problems. Any time I choose my own way – I am acting out in my relationship with God which is a partnership. I choose righteousness and He gives me more and more peace. Jesus Christ overcame the world. So in every situation, by faith I have the ability to see a supernatural outcome. Nowhere in the world of God does it say, “Come follow me, and it will be smooth sailing and sunshine for the rest of your life.” Storms stir us up so we can remove that which comes between us and our God. Wind blows away those things keeping us from seeing His Perfect Plan. He promises to come like the rain. (Psalm 72:5-6) God also says that He will shake things up to make peace with His People. (Haggai 2:6-9) There are no surprises when tribulation comes in our life because Jesus plainly stated that we will have tribulation but can be of good cheer anyway. Peace with God comes from our faith in God. Trials strengthen our faith in God until confident hope is squeezed out. Confident hope never disappoints but sometimes it is a pain getting there. (Romans 5:1-5) But it is worth it because peace with God promotes and produces peace in every area of our natural life even with people. (Romans 5:5-8) You cannot make every person you come in to contact with happy. But you can make God happy in His Grace, Mercy and Love by faith that chooses righteousness in every situation. It is time to make peace in our life. Faith is produced in righteousness. Turnaround today and do something good for God according to His Word, Will and Way. In this way, you will be not only seeking His Peace but you will find it.

Isaiah 26:3-4 (NKJV)

You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You. Trust in the Lord forever, for in YAH, the Lord, is everlasting strength.
