Can’t Touch This – A Devotion

Can't Touch ThisRomans 8:38-39 (NLT)

And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love.  No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Our fears for today and worries for tomorrow can separate us from God’s Love. Oh, how I wish this was true in the life of every believer today. Sadly, this is not the case as most Christians live ineffective and immobilized by fear and doubt. When we are convinced that God loves us best and Jesus loves us the most it will change us from fickle believer to Intentional Christian. Problem is very few people are convinced of God’s Love. By attempting to compare His Love, Grace and Mercy with everyday people fear and doubt over take shaky faith until it tumbles into captivity once more. God loves you. Jesus loves you. The Holy Spirit loves you. Together – three in one – perfect love is created. Have you experienced the Love of God? It has the power to change your life. It will give you a new perspective that will empower your mind, body and soul to remain righteous and in touch with the Living God – not because you have to but because you cannot escape the all-consuming love of the Father once you fully commit to it. Nothing in all creation will EVER be able to separate us from the Love of God revealed in Christ Jesus!

Romans 3:10-18 (NLT)

As the Scriptures say, “No one is righteous—not even one.No one is truly wise; no one is seeking God.All have turned away; all have become useless. No one does good, not a single one. Their talk is foul, like the stench from an open grave. Their tongues are filled with lies. Snake venom drips from their lips. Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness. They rush to commit murder. Destruction and misery always follow them. They don’t know where to find peace. They have no fear of God at all.”

We have no peace at all outside of Jesus Christ. Why? We have walked away from righteous. The sinful nature of man naturally gravitates toward sin. We cannot help ourselves clearly so God set a divine plan into motion so that we can experience His Love once more. But a lack of respect for authority has left us in darkness. We want God but do not want Him to tell us what to do or how to do it. That is preposterous! How can we do the same thing, but expect different results as people give lip service to God withholding their heart and mind. To know the Lord is to fear the Lord which produces respect. Those who take the time to know God cannot help but love Him. He is that good! Salvation may or may not have been a product of the realization that God is all-powerful, all-knowing, and everywhere. Such a revelation creates an urgency to make things right between a being much greater than finite human thinking can comprehend. In that moment, a critical choice is made. Do I put my faith in God investing time and trust into the relationship or do I return to the darkness and seek the Light only as needed? Let me assure you everyone needs Jesus every day for all the reasons listed in Romans 3. Human beings are self-destructive unintentionally. We must all learn to fear God!

Romans 13:3-4 (NLT)

For the authorities do not strike fear in people who are doing right, but in those who are doing wrong. Would you like to live without fear of the authorities? Do what is right, and they will honor you. The authorities are God’s servants, sent for your good. But if you are doing wrong, of course you should be afraid, for they have the power to punish you. They are God’s servants, sent for the very purpose of punishing those who do what is wrong.

There is a prevailing lack of respect for authority in the world today. Just get on a nearby interstate and deliberately maintain the posted speed limit, and you will get your doors nearly blown off by the passing cars that go speeding by! There is a myth that if you stay within five miles of the posted limit that an officer will not pull you over. This is called compromise which is the demise of most Christians today. We look for way to create an acceptable gray area in our life that is comfortable. We believe that God will not punish us for sins committed in this carefully marked position. God hates sin – all of it. It is the very thing that nailed His Precious Son to the Cross. Maybe if people would learn to respect authority and the rules of this world, they would become wise in following God’s Plan as well. God’s Word including every commandment are not up for discussion or debate but fully expected from those who wish to make the Kingdom of God their home. It means you cannot play with, entertain or walk the line when it comes to sin. The Lord tells us to completely turn from it and do good. Grace is not gray it is black or white. Those who choose to remain righteous and become holy and consecrated to God must learn to respect all forms of authority and live like it. Think of it this way: If I conscientiously drive the speed limit day in and day out observing all posted traffic signs and roadway rules, I will not be afraid when I pass a state trooper because I am being obedient. However, if I am speeding carelessly down the highway swerving in and out of my lane I am going to be mortified when I round the bend and come face-to-face with the same officer. Why? Because I am guilty! I knew the rules and chose to be disobedient. What makes Christians think that grace makes sin permissible? Grace is not permission to sin but a pardon when we do.

Job 11:13-18 (NLT)

“If only you would prepare your heart and lift up your hands to him in prayer!Get rid of your sins and leave all iniquity behind you. Then your face will brighten with innocence. You will be strong and free of fear. You will forget your misery; it will be like water flowing away. Your life will be brighter than the noonday. Even darkness will be as bright as morning. Having hope will give you courage. You will be protected and will rest in safety.”

The only way to escape the grip of fear and doubt in our life is to become righteous and strive for holiness. It will require an attentive effort on your part to know and recognize the parameters of God’s Love and learn to live in it. We must first prepare our heart! Repentance is the beginning of a life changing experience with the Lord. However, repentance without turning is not what God is after. To say “I am sorry” and do the very same thing again is not sincere. We must remain clean striving for holiness to remain in righteousness through the Blood of Jesus Christ. (2 Corinthians 1:7) We must challenge the throne of our heart to see who we fear (respect, honor, and cherish) the most. (Psalm 118:6) If it is not the Lord, then our heart is vulnerable. We must put people in their proper place in our life. We must pray and remain in constant communication with the Lord to erase all fear and doubt. Fear is found in the unknown. The Lord wants us to know Him and know Him well. Prayer is all the encouragement we need sometimes. (Psalm 34:45) It has the power to release us from chains of doubt. We must live apart from sin working overtime to extradite if from our life. No sin is acceptable. (Psalm 51:7) Forget the misery of your past including guilt and shame. (Psalm 51:9-10) God has forgiven you. He will never hold it against you unless you bring it up again. Keep your sin under the Blood and move on into the New Life you have been promised. Build confident hope through persistence and endurance always turning every aspect of your life to the Lord. It is this hope that does not lead to disappointment as faith and trust develop respect for God and His Kingdom. Such fear is required by the Lord. “So we can say with confidence, ’The Lord is my helper, so I will have no fear. What can mere people do to me?’”(Hebrews 13:6)

2 Timothy 1:6-7 (NLT)

This is why I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you when I laid my hands on you. For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.

The Spirit of the Living God lives inside of every believer. It takes hold of faith and is constantly trying to create confident hope. The faith is stretched and pushed to its limits as the Spirit works to establish us in the Love of God which produces no trepidation in our life. (I John 4:18) In fact, perfect love does away with fear. Now the only reason we have to fear God is that He has the power to throw people into hell. (Luke 12:4-6) Harsh, I know but true. This revelation is not the Santa Claus, Easter Bunny and warm fuzzy perception a weak church has created. It is in His Word. God’s Grace, Mercy and Love has provided us with everything we need to escape Judgment and the penalty of sin so now we have nothing to fear after we step into the righteousness of God  through Jesus Christ. Any fear we obtain from this point forward is not of God! It is usually a lie of the enemy that we have accepted as the truth. Fear cannot touch you so why would you accept into your life. Walk away. Avoid it. Refuse it. Do not acknowledge it. Use God’s Word to refute it. Stir up His Spirit to overpower it. God’s Spirit inside of you is one of your greatest defenses against fear. Without the Spirit of God, fear can over take you and all its accompaniments. (I Samuel 16:14) Led by the Spirit, we are protected in the Refuge of His Love as God’s Dear Children. (Romans 8:14-16) Nothing can separate us from God’s Love in this place because we are convinced that God loves us and means well toward us. The Word of God tells us that those who fear ONLY the Lord will forever prosper! (Deuteronomy 5:29) The World did not give you peace and it cannot take it away. Do not let fear rob you of your joy because it is a Gift from God. Fan the flames of God’s Spirit to remind your heart, mind and soul that you have the mindset of Jesus Christ including peace and victory. His Spirit will do the rest. Strengthen God’s Spirit through fasting, prayer and seeking His Wisdom to create a greater understanding of God’s Tremendous Love for you!

Exodus 1:16-17, 20-21 (NLT)

“When you help the Hebrew women as they give birth, watch as they deliver. If the baby is a boy, kill him; if it is a girl, let her live.” But because the midwives feared God, they refused to obey the king’s orders. They allowed the boys to live, too.”

“So God was good to the midwives, and the Israelites continued to multiply, growing more and more powerful. And because the midwives feared God, he gave them families of their own.”

Do you respect the Lord and fear God more than anyone else? Every day our faith is put on trial by the enemy who is constantly accusing us of our every sin before the Throne of God. What is your response to such testing? Who you fear most is evidenced in your life by what you do more than what you say. The midwives were instructed to kill all the boy babies born to the Hebrews. They did not do it because they feared God more than government. Will you share your faith at work today or are you afraid to lose your job? Will you compromise morality or ethics to get a promotion? How far can you be pressed and still remain true to the Lord? Are you willing to wait for God’s Best on God’s Time? These are all situations that will reveal faith and fear in your life. You will be tested. Peace comes when the decision is finally made to reject fear in this world by choosing to fear only the Lord. (Leviticus 26:3-6) Such a lifestyle will produce a harvest of peaceful satisfaction in your life no matter what tomorrow brings. Those who put the Lord first and above all others will be blessed!

Psalm 112:6-8 (NLT)

Such people will not be overcome by evil. Those who are righteous will be long remembered. They do not fear bad news; they confidently trust the Lord to care for them. They are confident and fearless and can face their foes triumphantly.

Righteous people who live in close proximity to God will long be remembered for they will never die. They cannot be overcome by evil because they live apart from it. Confident trust in the Lord convinces us that the enemy cannot harm us. It tells the devil, “Back off – you can’t touch this!” But fear invites the adversary to enter your life and fear to overcome God’s Beloved! God did not give you a spirit of fear but of Power and Might. Stir up His Spirit today to remind your soul who you are and that you have nothing to fear. Nothing can ever separate you from His Love. Become convinced of this and fear will exit your life for good!

Zephaniah 3:17 (NLT)

“For the Lord your God is living among you. He is a mighty savior. He will take delight in you with gladness. With his love, he will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs.”
