Make Some Room – A Devotion

John 3:30-32 (NLT)

He must become greater and greater, and I must become less and less. He has come from above and is greater than anyone else. We are of the earth, and we speak of earthly things, but he has come from heaven and is greater than anyone else.He testifies about what he has seen and heard, but how few believe what he tells them!

When our children were younger, this was the time of year that would clean out the old unwanted or unused toys to make way for the things they hoped that Santa Claus would bring them. We also would incorporate clothing as well removing outgrown items to the grow-into boxes, share or garbage can. Sharing these items with others taught them about giving to others, as well as making room for the things they desired not to mention reducing the cluttered accumulation of five children. Sadly, we are down to one “kid” who desperately tries to keep up with her “tween”-age, teenage and adult siblings. There are not many toys lying around the house. Now they have all moved on to bigger and more expensive “toys” that come at a much higher price. There will not be toys scattered under the tree this year because that is too babyish and now the kids are holding out for electronics and such. Clothing no longer is saved for the next sibling but is now given away as there are no more little ones to share with much to the exuberance of the neighbor with a daughter just behind ours. It is time to make some room. I have found that in these moments of cleaning out the clutter in our life that we discover just how blessed that we are. It is also a great opportunity to give to others and share the overflow and abundance of God with the people around you. Generosity opens doors that religion never could as others receive from your relationship to Jesus Christ.

As a believer, I find that there are times when my own heart could use a good cleaning out. The schedule that dictates my life needs a little rearranging. There are some daily routines that need careful evaluation not to mention many habits that should be compared to God’s Plan and Agenda for my life. However, seldom do we stop to do such an intimate thing. To give and take things is so much easier than self-evaluation and careful estimation of the contents of one’s heart. However if you are to experience the Glory of God and all of His Promises in your life, one must make room for such things. Adopting the philosophy of reduce, recycle and reuse. We must work diligently to remove those things that are barring our access deeper into the Presence of God namely sin. We must allow the Holy Spirit to have His Way in our mind and spirit to renew our thoughts and cast off every one that would exalt itself against knowing God more. We must reuse grace to cover the many ways that we have erred in our thinking opening the door to the freedom granted by the Lord once more to enter His Will and Way for our life. Yes, it is time to make some room for the Greatness of God in our life once more.

Romans 5:16-17 (NLT)

And the result of God’s gracious gift is very different from the result of that one man’s sin. For Adam’s sin led to condemnation, but God’s free gift leads to our being made right with God, even though we are guilty of many sins. For the sin of this one man, Adam, caused death to rule over many. But even greater is God’s wonderful grace and his gift of righteousness, for all who receive it will live in triumph over sin and death through this one man, Jesus Christ.

In order for God to become greater in your life, it is first essential that as a believer you understand that Greatness of God’s Wonderful Grace and His Gift of Righteousness. It will remove every barrier and excuse for sin prevailing in your life. Adam’s sin culminated into a culture of sin but it never became bigger than God’s Grace, Love and Mercy for mankind. Therefore, there is nothing that you can do to separate from the Love of God except reject His Gift. You cannot earn it. You cannot lose it. You cannot sin more than the amount of His Grace. When we determine that we must get right before coming to the Lord, then we have increased above the greatness essentially becoming a legend in our own mind and buying into the lie of the enemy that our sin is greater than God’s Grace which came at the expense of the life of His Only Son – Jesus. If we can become overpowered by sin in the midst of Grace, then it appears that Jesus did not overcome the world as indicated. One lie in God’s Word means the whole thing is a fallacy. If we decide to allow sin entrance into our life and live with it, then we have permitted it to become a barrier in our relationship with God. God’s Grace is a gift and His Righteousness, too. All you can do is accept it. Will you make some room in your life for His Grace and Righteousness today? If you do, you win!

Deuteronomy 9:1-3 (NLT)

“Listen, O Israel! Today you are about to cross the Jordan River to take over the land belonging to nations much greater and more powerful than you. They live in cities with walls that reach to the sky! The people are strong and tall—descendants of the famous Anakite giants. You’ve heard the saying, ‘Who can stand up to the Anakites? But recognize today that the Lord your God is the one who will cross over ahead of you like a devouring fire to destroy them. He will subdue them so that you will quickly conquer them and drive them out, just as the Lord has promised.”

In order to make room for God in our life, it is important to know the Lord and how He operates. God’s Word has been given to instruct us along with His Spirit to counsel us. In the day of Moses and the Children of Israel, God would speak to Moses and Moses would tell the people what God was saying. Now the Holy Spirit lives inside the heart of every believer making God’s Voice audible for those willing to listen. His Word was written for us as well to know a God we cannot see. God told the Children of Israel (paraphrased), “Look today you will walk into the Promised Land and take over the land of nations bigger and more powerful. These people are massive. But understand no matter how things look and what you see – I am going ahead of you. I will destroy them. I will subdue them so you will quickly conquer them and drive them out just as I promised.” Now here is the problem, we want to do it our way. We want it on our time. We do not want to get our hands dirty and we are not willing to wait for the victory usually because we are not listening in the first place. God told you what to expect when the most recent battle in your life began. Most likely He told you to wait while His Spirit worked all the details out, but we missed the part where He does it all and tried to help the Lord out. You will win every battle in your life if you will allow God’s Way to prevail and wait on His Timing. If you have to help, you have become greater than God’s Presence in your life. Step back and make room by allowing God to work everything out. God told His People to take over, triumph and prevail which comes after He settles things first. He will deal with your enemies. He will remove those standing in the way of your blessing. God is greater than anything in your life when you are willing to wait for His Will, His Way and His Word in every situation.

Deuteronomy 11:22-24 (NLT)

“Be careful to obey all these commands I am giving you. Show love to the Lord your God by walking in his ways and holding tightly to him. Then the Lord will drive out all the nations ahead of you, though they are much greater and stronger than you, and you will take over their land. Wherever you set foot, that land will be yours. Your frontiers will stretch from the wilderness in the south to Lebanon in the north, and from the Euphrates River in the east to the Mediterranean Sea in the west.”

Thank God for the Children of Israel who were great examples to the modern day believer and before you judge them too harshly many of the same struggles they had are common to man today. Some may say how stupid to see the Mighty Miracles of God and still doubt the Lord. Ahem! God has miracles in store for you. His Promises are no less than the one’s they were given. But if you are not living a supernatural existence experiencing the Blessing of God in your everyday life – you are walking in the very same footsteps except the Spirit of God lives in you no longer just with you! We have no excuse to not have a miraculous life. God lives in us! All God requires is obedience based on love. By simply obeying God’s Word as an act of love, wherever you set foot, the “land” will be yours! No matter how great the barriers in your life appear – God is greater! You access His Greatness by obedience. What is God doing in your life that you cannot see because you have decided to follow other gods? Are you careful to obey God’s Word every day and in every way? Do you show the Lord your God that you love Him by living in mindful and intentional obedience beginning with love and commitment? If not, then why would you expect to walk in His Blessings? God must be greater than any other factor in your life to expand the parameters of receivership in your life. If there is no room for Jesus – where will the blessing come from? Where is the power supposed to manifest? What are you waiting for?

Deuteronomy 20:1-3 (NLT)

“When you go out to fight your enemies and you face horses and chariots and an army greater than your own, do not be afraid. The Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, is with you! When you prepare for battle, the priest must come forward to speak to the troops. He will say to them, ‘Listen to me, all you men of Israel! Do not be afraid as you go out to fight your enemies today! Do not lose heart or panic or tremble before them. For the Lord your God is going with you! He will fight for you against your enemies, and he will give you victory!’”

There is no need to take a stand for Jesus Christ in this war against satan without faith. If you do not trust the Greatness of God and His Inhabitation of your life, you are going to lose this war. Fear negates one’s faith every time. It implies disbelief in the Power of God and limits access to it. When talking with some young people recently, one of them had been berated by his friends for not wanting to go to a “haunted” house. He said, “Why would I pay for something that God didn’t give me?” Out of the mouth of babes… God has not given you the Spirit of Fear (2 Timothy 1:7), but of a sound mind. Your mind should be filled with power, love and self-discipline. You have the Mind of Jesus Christ. How? His Spirit lives on the inside of you bearing witness to the secret thoughts of God! God is going ahead of you and securing your victory. Just hang on and do not be afraid. Do not lose heart (faith). Do not panic (fear). Do not break down and run away. Just hang on – God is going to give you the victory! You do not have to buy it or sell your soul for it. It is His Gift. Like children must wait on Christmas, you just have to wait on the Lord! Do not overpay or pay twice for things you desire in life. Friend, Jesus paid it all!

John 14:12-13 (NLT)

“I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father. You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do it, so that the Son can bring glory to the Father.”

God is ready to release His Greatness in your life. Jesus gave us access to the Glory of God. It is reserved for you! By faith, we have the ability to do the same works that Jesus did and even greater ones because He now sits at the Right Hand of God and His Spirit lives inside of us. We can ask ANYTHING in His Name and He will do it. Will you allow God to work in your life today? Will you give His Spirit room to move by removing those things that stand in His Way?

Psalm 135:5 (NLT)

I know the greatness of the Lord— that our Lord is greater than any other god.

Each of us must examine our own heart and mind asking the Lord to reveal what has become bigger than God. These things must go so we can make some room for our faith to grow creating confident hope in the Lord God alone. Do you know the Greatness of God today? You can if you make some room for it.

2 Corinthians 3:7-9 (NLT)

The old way, with laws etched in stone, led to death, though it began with such glory that the people of Israel could not bear to look at Moses’ face. For his face shone with the glory of God, even though the brightness was already fading away. Shouldn’t we expect far greater glory under the new way, now that the Holy Spirit is giving life? If the old way, which brings condemnation, was glorious, how much more glorious is the new way, which makes us right with God!

I think most sincere believers who have given their life to Jesus Christ would agree that life before the Lord was not much of an existence. Now we have experienced a taste of His Glory and His Goodness but cannot seem to access all that God has promised! Well that is about to change as we make room for God’s Glory and Greatness in our life. Walk in His Ways. Love the Lord with all your heart and live like it. Reject the spirit of fear because God didn’t give it to you! Prepare for victory not the battle. You don’t need to fight just stand on faith! Though the war is raging, Jesus has overcome them all and you will win every time. It is His Gift to you His Beloved. Accept it, live in it, and make room for it in your life!

I John 4:4 (NLT)

But you belong to God, my dear children. You have already won a victory over those people, because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world.
