High Caliber People – A Devotion

2 Corinthians 10:3-5 (NLT)

We are human, but we don’t wage war as humans do. We use God’s mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments. We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ.

Bullets come in various shapes and sizes. There are small ones and quite large ones. It all depends what the target is as to which bullet is the appropriate choice. Each bullet is measured in size by a unit known as caliber. The familiar smaller caliber would be the traditional BB used in BB guns which measures .177 which refers to the diameter of the bullet itself. Small firearms use bullets from .17 inch to .50 inch or caliber. These measurements increase as the weapon size increases. Large hunting rifles have a much larger caliber bullet than a small handgun. The caliber dictates the bore diameter which indicates the amount of gun powder a bullet will hold. The larger the ammunition the more powder can be packed into the bullet thus the more powerful it becomes. With that in mind, the bullet used is largely dictated by what exactly it is that one is hunting. God has instilled great firepower in His People. Every Christian has the potential to be a mighty weapon for God to knock down every stronghold that presents itself. Powerful people require depth in Spirit just as a large caliber bullet possesses the capacity to hold more gun powder than a smaller caliber bullet will. Are you one of God’s high caliber people today?

The word “caliber” refers to capacity when defined in terms relative to ammunition. Caliber has an additional meaning that applies to God’s Children. It is the degree of merit or excellence as defined by one’s character. There is powerful potential in those who seek excellence and completion. A bullet is not effective until it is filled with gunpowder and sealed. Without one powerful ingredient to complete it, it is merely a casing and of no use to a hunter or marksman. You are not effective for the Lord until you are filled with the Holy Spirit. Without the Spirit of God alive and active, filling every part of your being, you lack the power that is described in today’s passage. God did not intend for His Children to be weak but filled with the power, knowledge and excellence that is the great I Am! High caliber people are not bothered by the small things in life because their weapons are not worldly. Target practice is effective for practice and improved proficiency but until you actually do something with the weapons you possess they are merely for display and that is not what your Father had in mind when He gave them to you! You were to be a mighty warrior! Not only should you have the power to change your own life, but also the lives around you! Your weapons are not made of steel but of the Spirit with great power and proficiency.

When you woke up this morning, you may not have felt very powerful. Conquering the world was not your first thought or second, maybe it was more like get coffee and make the world go away. But when you woke up this morning, God smiled and said, “Good morning mighty warrior! What stronghold is coming down today?” The Lord does not seek your weakness because He provided the potential for great power to be activated in your life. All God sees in you is His Son, Jesus Christ and His Power and Might! He is ready to point, aim and fire you in the right direction. His target is taking down the obstacles that have hindered you and firmly planting you in your promised destiny. You were born with the “bore capacity” for complete fulfillment by the Holy Spirit to activate God’s Powerful Plan for your life! It is time to be that high-caliber person the God created you to be!

Romans 12:2-3 (NLT)

Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. Because of the privilege and authority God has given me, I give each of you this warning: Don’t think you are better than you really are. Be honest in your evaluation of yourselves, measuring yourselves by the faith God has given us.

Stop trying to be someone else today! Be the high-caliber person that God created you to be full of excellence! Allow the Holy Spirit to activate the faith that is in you! It is already there! God gave each of us a measure of faith that is far greater than that which we can muster up ourselves. It allows us to be marksmen in the Kingdom of God taking down every threat against God’s Kingdom activated in our lives and the lives of those around us! You have authority today to enforce your right to attain God’s Promise through your faith! Activate the spiritual weapons God has given you and allow His Spirit to explode God’s Power in your life today!
